Haverfordwest

85 (10pts.)

Tenby 71 (4)

The Jones and Jones sponsored Tenby team recently travelled to Haverfordwest for a top of the table clash.

Tenby, who have four games away from home in their end of season run in, knew that they would have grind results out if they were going to retain their title.

Pat Currie who at one stage was 21-2 in arrears pulled out some exceptional shots just to hang on to the shirt-tails of Hafat skip P.D.S. Jenkins.

Pat's rink of Sam McNeilly, Alan Redman and Peter Day clawed back near the end but unfortunately lost by 12 shots.

Terry Howells always seems to be involved in tight close battles and this game was no exception.

His rink of Lee Richards, Jon Webb and Dave Morgan just nicked it at the end winning by a close two shots.

Paul Diment's rink of Luke Guymer, Bill Bailey and Andrew Muskett got of to a slow start and never made the deficit back up, losing finally by 12 shots.

Dai Spencer, Terry Preston, Dai Newth and skip Jon Baggott turned out to be the big plus of the day.

Always in control of their match they cruised to a respectable eight shot victory.

What was billed as a big title decider the Tenby team never really mastered the away green and should be quite thankful they managed to salvage four points. There is still everything to play for!

Rink scores (Tenby first, Haverfordwest skips only):

Sam McNeilly, Alan Redman, Peter Day, Pat Currie 11; P.D.S Jenkins 23.

Lee Richards, Jon Webb, Dave Morgan, Terry Howells 17; D. Jones 15.

Dai Spencer, Terry Preston, Dai Newth, John Baggott 22; C. Jones 14

Luke Guymer, Bill Bailey, Andrew Muskett, Paul Diment 21; R. Fairhurst 33

Whitland 52 (2pts.)

Tenby 91 (12)

Whitland was the next away venue for the Jones and Jones sponsored Tenby team on Saturday.

On a very hot sunny afternoon, the in form Whitland side fancied their chances against a Tenby side, who had lost four matches already this season.

John Baggott's rink of Dai Spencer, Terry Preston and Dai Newth are turning out to be a very hard rink to beat.

With good performances by all four, including a haul of seven on the fourth end, they easily won by 19-shots.

John was tenacious as ever right up to the final bowl, and took some convincing by Dai Spencer (who spent most of the afternoon draped over the Barbecue) that we could not drop a 19 on the last end.

Terry Howells again ground out a good win for Tenby by five shots. Fine performances by all within his rink which consisted of Ben Owens, Jon 'how far is my bowl from the jack' Webb and Andrew Muskett.

The other top rink of the day also with a 19-shot winning margin was Paul Diment.

Paul was ably assisted by Sam McNeilly at lead, 'come on William' Bailey at second, and Ian Badham putting in a fine performance in at third.

Lee Richards, Dave Morgan and Peter Day made up the quiet rink skipped by captain Pat Currie.

The lads were well down at one point, but still managed to come back to within four shots of the Whitland foursome, which showed their true fighting qualities.

A very good performance by Tenby on the day, which showed commitment and desire which had been lacking earlier in the season. With three games left this now gives them a realistic chance of retaining the title.

Rink scores (Tenby first, Whitland skips only):

Dai Spencer, Terry Preston, Dai Newth, John Baggott 28; G. Thomas 9.

Ben Owens, Jon Webb, Andrew Muskett, Terry Howells 17; S. Reese 12.

Sam McNeilly, Bill Bailey, Ian Badham, Paul Diment 29; P. Wills 10.

Lee Richards, Dave Morgan, Peter Day, Pat Currie 17; C. Court 21.

Tenby Bowling

Club 77

Tenby Rugby Club 97

This was a friendly on Friday night between both clubs for the Trevor Lloyd Jones Memorial Trophy.

Captains for the day were Pat Currie for the bowlers and 'birthday boy' Macky Brace for the rugby club.

It was agreed before the start to give the Rugby Club seven shots on each rink, as they were non-bowlers. Imagine Pat's dismay when around the corner came the likes of Myrddin Dennis and George Cavill.

Ted Brutnell skipped for the bowlers but was well beaten by rugby captain Macky by 22-shots.

A victory for skip Bert Barnikel of the bowlers was well received. Bert was up against non-bowler Webby! and just ran out a 5-shot winner. This was the second time, this year Webby has defected to the dark side, which has been noted by many within the bowling club.

Lewis Hilling skipped three ladies in his rink and what turned out to be a very enjoyable game the bowlers just lost out to A. Lewis by 12-shots.

Peter Hooper was another winner for the bowling club, substituted by Lee Richards at half-time, the rink held out to an eventual four-shot victory.

In the end, the rugby club won overall by 20-shots to clinch the Trevor Lloyd Thomas memorial Trophy. Wait until next year Macky!

A fine evening was then spent in the Bar afterwards.

Rink scores (Bowlers skips first):

Ted Brutnell 11; Macky Brace 33.

Bert Barnikel 24; Jon Webb 19.

Lewis Hilling 17; A. Lewis 29.

Peter Hooper/Lee Richards 20; M. Dennis 16.

GOSCAR 54.75 (2)

Goscar travelled to Pembroke Dock last Wednesday for their Division Two fixture and found it really tough going against a strong Dock side.

Rink scores (Goscar first, Pembroke Dock skips only):

BORDERERS 107.75 (12)

Goscar welcomed Whitland Borderers to Tenby on Sunday for the bottom of the table Division Two clash.

Two of the Goscar players were away helping Tenby and the Five Arches teams who were unable to field full teams from their squads, so once again Goscar had to rely on their junior players to come into the team.

The visitors raced into a 50-shot lead by 10-ends, but the Goscar players gritted their teeth in the second-half and clawed back six shots, but alas it was not enough.

The rink skipped by Ted Brutnell with Brian Winstone as lead, Cyril Roberts as second and Alan Redman third, found themselves 6-16 down at tea, but put in a sterling performance in the second-half to win 22-21. Well done lads.

Rink scores (Goscar first, Borderers skips only):

S. Meads, S. Taylor, J. Hubbard, R. Wilkins 17; J. Addison 30.

L. McDaid, S. Askew, R. Hine, S. Paul 12; B. Griffiths 30.
