All were pleased to welcome our latest recruit, Margaret Hill, widow of the late Colin Hill.  Colin was one of the bowling club's chief organisers for many seasons.   Although a little rusty, Margaret soon got the hang of it, especially the ancient guide to the movements around the tables. As usual, another very humorous evening's whist in good company.

Bowling club whist is played twice weekly, Monday and Thursday at 7 pm sharp. New members and visitors are always welcome.

Bonus Ball winners

Wednesday, April 29 - Helen and Christine; Saturday, May 2 - Paul Edwards.

Recruiting Drive 2009

The new season of serious bowling is well into its stride now and Tenby Bowling Club is ever mindful that our class bowlers do not last for ever and feel that it is incumbent on the present generation to look well into the future (writes B.B.).

Our current crop of quality bowlers stemmed, in the main, from our club's wise decision, in the early 1980s, to grant three free bowling sessions to newcomers to the game, young and old, male and female.

The Tenby club is one of the leaders in the coaching of newcomers and putting our local school children through the 'taster' lessons in June/July each season.

We currently boast 11 qualified Welsh bowling coaches, led this year by Mrs. Julia King Thomas, the community hub coaching officer, covering the counties of Carmarthen and Pembroke.

Julia is the Welsh Women's  immediate past president, a superb player of the game, playing for Wales over five consecutive years.

Tenby Bowling Club, once again, invite any member of the Tenby area, of any age or sex, to come and try their hand at this very satisfying and healthy and ancient game of lawn green bowling.

We give three free (two hours each) lessons, which will launch you into a whole new experience.

Please contact Doug Silcox, head of the club's coaching, or our assistant secretary/competition secretary,  Lynn Delabertouche, initially for more details.

There are special membership rates for juniors and youngsters in full-time education. Adults joining for the first time also enjoy a special rate for their first season.

The Tenby club is the oldest in the county of Pembroke, with a long history of success since inception in 1923.

Our ladies team, Tenby Arches, captained by Lynn, are current champions of the Pembroke County Two Rink League. Likewise, the men's Tenby team are currently the Pembroke County Division One champions.

Icing on the cake was Ray Hine leading his Meyrick Owen rink to victory in 2008, as they powered their way to winning the Meyrick Owen Shield, some achievement.

We also have an active social section, which includes whist, darts and pool. Quizzes are held regularly in support of many worthy causes, with Lee and Hayley Richards posing some pretty hard questions!

If anyone needs gentle exercise, we boast a beautiful 18-hole putting course.

All in all, the Tenby club is thriving, with a go-ahead management team led by chairman John Baggott.
