New Kitchen

Oodles of room in the newly-refurbished kitchen, to the delight of all, and there's still the full use of the dining area for the big games and functions - pragmatism at it's very best. Now we can get on with the serious matter of bowling.  Tomorrow (Saturday), Kidwelly bowlers grace our green with their presence for another very friendly pipe opener for the 2008 season, which is going very well. Great to see our talented juniors in the thick of these friendly-cum-trial matches.  Tenby club starts hosting the first of many friendly touring sides in early May. Will all members keep an eye on the noticeboards and make themselves available for as many games as possible. Every member will get a fair share of these important games and they are an excellent opportunity to practice the noble art of bowling.

Club competitions 2008

All the entry sheets for the many internal cups and trophies are starting to fill up, but be warned, they close on April 26. Don't miss out on the chance to test your improving skills against the random selection of club members you will meet en-route to the exciting finals. Live dangerously and enjoy the thrill of a well played game of bowls, win or lose.

Coffee morning

The coffee morning organised by the ladies was a resounding success. Many thanks to all who supported this fund-raiser, especially the Steps2Health walkers who calmly walked off with most of the raffle prizes. Special thanks to the raffle prize donors.

Tenby 122 Ammanford Park 103

After a long winter, the 2008 bowling season got underway with the Layton & Co Solicitors sponsored Tenby team playing a friendly home tie against Ammanford Park. Runners-up in the league last year, continuing captain Dai Spencer is hoping to go one better and this fixture was a chance to cast his eye over the early season form of his squad. The Tenby lads took to the green wearing their new blue and white shirts, which are generously sponsored by Jon Webb, of Layton & Co Solicitors, for the second year running. On rink one, skip Peter Day had a new look rink consisting of Gerald Hewitt, Doug Silcox and recent signing John Roberts. The Tenby boys were in a commanding form throughout and cruised to an impressive 14-shot victory. Rink two consisted of Joseph Richards, Ken Lloyd, Simon Evans and skip Pat Currie. Pat and his men started slowly, but by mid-point had clawed back level. A devastating drop of four on the 20th end killed off the Tenby challenge, but the final score was still only a narrow two shot loss. Ashley Hooper, Neil Dickinson, Jon Webb and skip Andrew Muskett were involved in a close tussle in their match. Tight from beginning to end, Andrew succeeded in driving his men over the line by a single shot margin. On rink four, Paul Diment was teamed up with Dai Spencer, Bert Barnikel, and Terry Howells. With Paul and Bert in excellent form, the end result was a creditable four-shot victory. Harold Ebdon, Adam Hensman, Ray Holly and skip John Moffat were involved in a nip-and-tuck battle in their contest. Six shots in arrears early on, the men in blue pulled it back to a well earned draw at the end. Rink six was made up of Five Arches players, ably skipped by Tony Brown. Well supported by Stuart Askew, the up-and-coming Luke Rees and Mike Gouldingay, Tony and his men battled out a well- earned victory by a close two shots. An overall victory of 19 shots was the final outcome, with the Tenby team only losing on one rink. Although very early in the season, confidence was high after the game, and with a few more players still to join the side, the 2008 season looks quite promising for Dai Spencer and his team. Rink scores (Tenby first, Ammanford Park skips only) were: Gerald Hewitt, Doug Silcox, John Roberts, Peter Day 28; K. Peregrine 14. Joseph Richards, Ken Lloyd, Simon Evans, Pat Currie 18; N. Bithray 20. Ashley Hooper, Neil Dickinson, Jon Webb, Andrew Muskett 21; W. Owen 20. Dai Spencer, Bert Barnikel, Terry Howells, Paul Diment 19; R. Davis 15. Harold Ebdon, Adam Hensman, Ray Holly, John Moffat 16; M. Rees 16. Stuart Askew, Luke Rees, Mike Gouldingay, Tony Brown 20; H. Phillips 18.
