TENBY JUNIORS 80 RHONDDA 41

This was an inaugural friendly for the club's juniors, played on a georgous day, in front of a large appreciative crowd. With six of our young starlets absent through county competitons and holidays, the Tenby side was complemented by youngsters from various clubs in the area. With everyone getting game time, it was a first experience for the ones under 10 years of age to have the thrill of playing in front of family and friends. For the likes of Rachel Rees, Alex Brace and Cai Elms, the sheer joy on their faces to have taken part in a match was something to behold. Captain Joe Richards, as always, led from the front and picked up a count of seven near the end to earn rapturous applause from team-mates and spectators alike. Joe Dennis, a real chip off the block from father Myrddin, cajoled not only his rink, but the team as well, as he stormed to a big win. Ben Simmons and Adam Hensman certainly helped the cause. The Whitland trio of Liam Price, Ryan Thomas and James Jenner more than played their part. Kate and Lauren Williams are two youngsters from Saunderfoot to watch in the future. Adam and big brother Luke Rees also gave polished performances, as did Cameron White. Steve John, of Pembroke Dock, and Billy Lewis from Milford said how quick the green was, but like the experienced players they are, they soon adapted. For Angharad Thomas this was only her second time on the green, and she enjoyed herself immensely. The juniors are now hoping to have a return match next year in the Valleys. The absent junior girls were in a county competition in Haverfordwest, with Dana Rogers just missing out in the final. Grateful thanks to Audrey Owens who transported them to and from the game.

REFLECTIONS

Another Gold Cup week over. The overriding memory of Paul Diment's magnificent success on the final day is of his two young daughters running onto the green to congratulate him. It was a mammoth effort to play four games, totalling 90 ends - he certainly slept well that night! Lyn Deli ran the whole week with military precision. Chairman Dai King Thomas, as always, led by example, with his two trusty lieutenants, secretary Dai Spencer and treasurer Ashley Hoper, giving great support. The ladies, as always, were in the thick of it, working long hours in the 'galley', while other unsung heroes were Lil Howells, Graham Hill and Jim Taylor, who made sure the club and green surrounds were tidy for each morning, 'Simo' and Anne Marie, who kept the thirst buds quenched, and members and juniors who manned the kiosk. It was all summed eloquently by president Bert Barnikel, who rounded the week off with a great thank you speech. Well done Tenby Bowling Club.
