SUCCESSFUL BATON CHANGEOVER
Chris Jenkins, our highly skilled greenkeeper, is very pleased at the state of the Tenby bowling green. It held up very well in the severest heatwaves and Chris and the knowledgeable members agree that it was about the best our green has performed for many years. Likewise, praise from high classed visiting Welsh bowlers was equally eulogistic.
Chris was also suitably amazed at the speed with which the hollow tine cores were removed from the green ready for the top dressing application on the weekend. It was very gratifying to see new members voluntarily mucking-in with the old, carrying on the perennial economy drive because thereby lies the future of our busy little club.
Equally, the new faces in the club shouldered most of the burden in assisting Chris to top-dress the green ready for its winter best on Saturday. Molly Spencer, aged six, and Joe Richards, who is nearly 12, were in the thick of it, helping to make short work of the task. Keeping our morale high were Rose and Joan with the very acceptable tea and toast.
VERY TRIM
Our club is and has been since inception, grateful for members' contributions of free time and energy doing necessary maintenance yearly, saving the club much money. Unfortunately, such members are not very thick on the ground, but as luck has it, Ted Brutnell has chosen the Tenby Bowling Club in which to enjoy his retirement. Ted is and probably always has been a workaholic, full of energy and ideas. In this, his second year in the club, he brought a lot of pleasure to many Tenby bowlers as captain of second division Goscar team, not an easy task.
Recently, the subject of our hedge trim, which was very imminent and expensive, came up in general conversation. Bert pointed out that the hedge was often cut by voluntary members in the past; one member cut the whole hedge with hand shears to our amazement. A nod was as good as a wink to Ted and in the space of three days our hedge was a spruce credit to our club -well done Ted.
