CARRUTHERS SHIELD

Tenby bowlers, having won their area preliminary round of the Carruthers Shield, are playing against Llanelli on Saturday, June 15, at home. All of our supporters are asked to turn out to cheer on the Tenby team in what will be another highclass game. If Tenby can maintain good form this year, the home advantage is continuous right up to the semi-finals.

STENA FIVE ARCHES

The Stena sponsored Five Arches played Milford Haven at home last Wednesday and after a close encounter lost by the narrow margin of four shots.

The weather was dry but cold. The green bowled exceptionally well, and is in great condition, due to the efforts of greenkeeper Chris Jenkins who does a superb job.

For this match, the Five Arches introduced young player, Craig Guymer, who gave a very good display in Mike Crockford's rink and looks a great acquisition to the team.

The match was close all the way and at 15 ends there was only two shots separating the teams.

But Milford just kept their noses in front to win the match by 85-81, collecting 10 points to the Arches' four.

Rink scores (Five Arches first, Milford skips only):

B. Russell, T. Powling, G. Beynon, R. Powling 26; B. Howells 20.

R. Hurlow, J. Best, M. Donoghue, K. Hubbard 21; P. Collins 22.

TENBY 147 HAZELL 108

"Where's Hazell," everyone asked. Near Oxford and the Aylesbury Ducklings!

Joan Dorling and her crew were 23 shots up by the 14th end, before they let the visitors score, and then they restricted them to six shots.

Mair Marquiss's rink were adrift by 10 shots and Mike Crockfords by 16.

These deficits were more than cancelled out by a 20-shot win by Chris Morgan and an 18-shot win by Dave King Thomas' quartet.

Lady chairman Pauline Barnikel came home by one shot.

Rink scores (Tenby first, Hazell skips only):

TENBY 95 ST. ISSELL'S 62

Sunny Saundersfoot was the venue last Saturday for the Jones and Jones sponsored Tenby team.

Musky, having developed a Quasimodo style hump with your reporter after last week's write up, has delegated all comments on his rink's performance to Ben. He was kind enough to forward the following statement:

'The heavyweight rink (Sam excepted) of Andrew Muskett goes rolling on'.

It's been suggested (rather unkindly) that if John Webb was part of the quartet there would be no family car strong enough to get them to away games. In this match, though, the rink was always in control, and gathering momentum in the second half. This is taking nothing away from their opponents who fought tenaciously throughout.

Paul was very magnanimous in his comments about his rink's performance, saying that their opponents played very well and they couldn't find an answer to it.

Pat's boys yet again reached the 30-shot mark, and they are hoping to make it six games on the trot next week.

The crowds that flocked to watch Dave's rink were not disappointed. Every time John Baggot took the mat you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. Dave said it was nip and tuck, but a very good game. Luke also proved he is settling very well in the top flight of bowls.

It's the big one next week, so why not spend an enjoyable afternoon watching the match. Your support will always be greatly appreciated.

Rink scores (Tenby first, St. Issell's skips only):

S. McNeilly, B. Owens, I. Badham, A. Muskett 30; T. Osborne 13.

D. Spencer, T. Preston, J. Webb, P. Diment 15; D. Roberts 26.

L. Richards, A. Redman, P. Day, P. Currie 31; J. Dugmore 7.

L. Guymer, P. Hooper, J. Baggott, D. Morgan 19; D. Robb 16.

TENBY LADIES 64

GLOUCESTER VPs 66

The ladies of Tenby Bowling Club welcomed Gloucester VPs to Tenby on Sunday to play a triples match. Fortunately the weather stayed fine, although it was a little cold.

Pauline's rink sailed away right from the start and won by 15 shots. Gladys's rink fought hard and came away with a two-shot win, but Joan and Peggy's rinks went down.

Rink scores (Tenby first, Gloucester skips only):

Jean Salisbury, Mary Draper, Peggy Best 9; Alice Fisher 21.

Rose Handicott, Phyllis Jones, Joan Dorling 13; Margaret 20.

Meryl Cooke, Marlene Burns, Gladys Gray 18; A. Worsley 16.

Bernie Russell, Alison Redman, Pauline Barnikel 24; Pat Howell 9.

PS. Many thanks to the two gentlemen who served a welcome cup of tea.

GOSCAR 59

PEMBROKE DOCK B 103

Tuesday of last week, playing away on a wet and cold evenieng, Goscar again lost to a much stronger team.

It seems Goscar loses most of its games in these conditions - we must be getting soft or just that little bit older. Never mind lads, summer's coming and we will soon get back to our winning ways.

Rink scores: (Goscar first Pem Dock B skips only):

A. Kelly, L. Guymer, A. Rootes, E. Dorling 21; D. C. Hughes 25.

C. Guymer, G. Beynon, J. Hubbard 24; E. Hissey 11.

R. Hines, H. Meades, R. Thake, B. Bailey 14; Pem Dock 25.

T. Brutnell, D. Watkins, R. Wilkins, A. Ormond 6; S. James 42.
