FIVE ARCHES LADIES 42
The Five Arches ladies completed a hat trick of wins in a week last Thursday when they chalked up a two shot victory at Pendine.
Although Rene Silcox and her rink went down by six shots, Chris Morgan skipped her quartet to an eight shot triumph over Carol Jones, which resulted in the Arches picking up four points.
Rink scores were (Arches first, Pendine skips only):
B. Russell, A. Redman, H. Baggott, R. Silcox 16; B. Pickersgill 22.
P. Stubbs, M. Cooke, A. Owens, C. Morgan 26; C. Jones 18.

Yorkshire Cup 2001
The Yorkshire Building Society has resided in Tenby for 22 years and they have sponsored Tenby Bowling Club's delightful August Bank Holiday tournament, The Yorkshire Cup, for 19 of those years.
Three years ago the singles format was changed into a pairs event and has proved very successful, this year being no exception.
Entrants enjoyed a very relaxed and friendly tournament with the usual crop of exciting games and upsets, none more so than the final.
Finalists this year were Irene Silcox and Mike Crockford, who had both had to bowl out of their skins to dislodge Cup holders, Sian Williams and Paul Diment in the semi-finals.
Joining them in the final, fresh from their successes in the club finals, were Ray Holly and John Baggot, who proved just too good for in-form Chris Morgan and Vera Williams in the semi-finals.
The final was worthy of the occasion with the result being in doubt right to the last bowl. Irene and Mike were thrilled with their win.
Jan Haddleton, manager of the Yorkshire Building Society, with husband Graham, presented the trophies. They were both impressed with the skill and excitement of the occasion and were pleased to be associated with this event.
Club Finals
Club secretary Bert Barnikel had to box clever fitting in all of the finals last weekend because of the successes of several bowlers reaching the finals and current Welsh internationals in the club making their presence felt.
Ceris Hewlings was in four finals, John Baggot, a new star in our club, was in six finals, Peter Day and Ray Holly were in four finals respectively.
Ladies Finals
W.J. Memorial Cup: I. Silcox 21 C. Hewlings 15. Irene Silcox produced some inspired bowling to edge out Ceris Hewlings in a very high class game.
Bill and Gladys Gray Cup: J. Bancroft 21 M. Burn 15.
Catherine Newton R.B: J. Bancroft 21 A. Owens 10. Janine Bancroft was in a quietly confident mood as she won her two trophies and looks to be heading for more international honours in the future.
F. B. Mason: C. Hewlings 21 H. Baggot 17. The F. B. Mason final was a long hard fought affair with our new talent Helen Baggot just succumbing to bubbly Ceris Hewlings.
Glyn Carey Shield (two wood pairs): Burney Russell and Ceris Hewlings 16 Helen Baggot and Mair Marquiss 14. A nail biter if there ever was one in a very low scoring game.
New Pavilion Cup (4 wood pairs): B. Russell and C. Hewlings 24 S. Williams and A. Redman 10.
Gwyneth Batchelor Over 60s (2 wood pairs): C. Morgan and P. Barnikel 21 P. Jones and B. Russell 11.
Margaret Perry Triples: A. Redman, G. Gray and L. Evans 21 M. Draper, A. Hubbard and M. Marquiss 2. The triples, played early because of the wedding, proved strangely one sided but with Alison Redman and 93-year-old Gladys Gray bowling their socks off, whilst skipper Lon Evans filled in the gaps there was little room for their stunned opponents.
Men's finals
Dr. E. Williams (Under 18s) H/Cap: Sion Smith 21 Joe Richards 13.
Chris Crockford (Under 18s) Scr: S. Smith 21 J. Richards 2. Sion Smith, one of our stylish young bowlers proved too good for young Joe, who excelled himself in the first game to achieve his best result in any competition.
Meyrick Price H/Cap: John Baggot 21 Robert Hughes 11.
Meyrick Price Scr. J. Baggot 21 R. Hughes 18. Robert is rapidly improving as he proved in the Meyrick Price Scratch Cup. The result could quite easily have been reversed in a very tight game.
T. P. Hughes Championship: Peter Day 21 Ray Holly 13. Peter, our current club captain turn on the style, bombarding the jack mercilessly and Ray, Five Arches captain, although in excellent form, could not match him.
Emlyn Morgan: Patrick Currie 21 John Baggot 14. Patrick has that determination to win and an uncanny way of raising his game if he has to, which has been rewarded over recent years at the highest level in bowls.
Gerald Fox: Peter Day 21 Ray Holly 17. The two captains battled it out again with the same result but there was very little separating them on the skill front, good match.
Maurice Ormond (2 wood): Paul Diment 21 John Baggot 16. Two wood singles is as tough as they come in the bowling world and this was a fine game to watch.
Evans and Johns (2 wood pairs): David King Thomas and John Baggot 20 Terry Preston and Gwyn Beynon 12. With David on a purple patch and John drawing on a sixpence Terry and Gwyn could not quite match them on the day but were gracious in defeat.
Berry and Rogers ( 4 wood pairs): Ben Owens and Patrick Currie 20 Peter Day and Mark Williams 15. This proved to be another humourous and skillful competition worthy of a final with the seniors running out winners on this occasion.
W.F. Jones (2 wood 21 ends) Triples: K. de la Bertouche, S. McNeilly and D. King Thomas 23 P. Day, P. Diment and M. Williams 9. Bill Jones, who donated this shield many years ago, maintained that the pinnacle of perfection in lawn green bowling was the conquering of the Two Wood game. Bill, himself, was a stern perfectionist who demanded the best from all who played for the club and his shield reminds us of this. Last years' winners, Keith, Sam and David, would have pleased Bill with their performance as they brushed aside the challenge of Peter, Paul and "Sparky", three high class bowlers, winning in style once again.
Wyn Samuels Over 65s: Ray Holly 21 Roy Powling 13.
Lloyd-Jones and Thomas Over 65s pairs: Terry Preston and Gwyn Beynon 24 Sam McNeilly and Roy Powling 18. This was an excellent competitive game much enjoyed by this experienced quartet.
Marquiss Rose Bowl Mixed Pairs: Helen and John Baggot 23 Mary Morris and Ray Holly 9. The combination of two very competitive players like Helen and John proved just too good for Mary and Ray Sunday evening. Both men were remarkably keen at the end of the game, considering that they had played in a combined total of 10 finals over the weekend.

Pembokeshire U35 83
West Glamorgan U35 82
With Carmarthenshire failing to provide a team for this annual 'triangular' tournament the other two sides were pitted head to head.
West Glamorgan B.A. have enjoyed a very successful season. Having already won the Welsh County Championship and the Welsh Senior County Championship they must have had high hopes of another victory at Tenby on Sunday.
On a glorious afternoon, the green played well and rewarded good bowling. The picture emerged quite early that the rinks skipped by the Poole brothers were to be involved in close, tense struggles. On rink 3 the foursome of Berwyn were finding it extremely difficult to withstand the onslaught of their opponents.
It remained to be seen whether Paul Diment could inspire his players to maintain a balance to the overall shot score. They responded magnificently, allowing their opponents to score only five ends.
The outcome of the absorbing contest remained in doubt until the very last end on Rink 4 where David Poole limited his opponents to a count of two.
Pembrokeshire had won on three rinks and by a single shot against formidable opponents. Well done everyone!
Results (Pembrokeshire first, West Glamorgan skips only) were:
C. Jones, S. Smith, S. Reese, S. Poole 23 G. Davies 18
P. Day, I. Badham, A. Muskett, P. Diment 30, S. Rees 13.
C. Wills, J. Webb, C. Court, B. Dennis 10, J. Austin 34.
M. James, G. Hughes, J. Roberts, D. Poole 20, J. Tomlinson 17.
TENBY 93
HEDGE END 138
The touring Southampton club Hedge End provided genial company and tough opposition for Tenby in a mixed friendly match on Friday afternoon.
It was the final fixture of the tourists' summer safari and they celebrated in style, winning on five of the six rinks.
Many of them commented on the high quality of the Tenby green. Some said it was the best they had ever seen.
The bowling was impressive, Tenby being well beaten by 45 shots overall.
Skipper for the day, Arthur Ormond, congratulated his opposite number, Dennis Stockwell, and his team, but had a special word of praise for Reg Thake and his winning Tenby rink in which Doug Silcox was in great form.
Hedge End have been the victims of vandals in their 10th anniversary season. So much damage has been wrought by a mechanical digger that the green has been out of action for over a year.
Rink scores (Tenby first, visiting skips only):
Pat Stubbs, Eric Dorling, Lee Richards, Gwyn Beynon 15; C. Higgins 21.
Jean Kelly, Graham Stubbs, Gavin Crawford, Joan Dorling 21; Pam Fraser 28.
Arthur Ormond, Gerald Hewitt, Mary Morris, Bert Barnikel 11; Dennis Stockwell 22.
Jean Salisbury, Tony Kelly, Doug Silcox, Reg Thake 17; M. Nash 13.
Harry Meads, Meryl Cooke, A. Grimbaldeston, Pauline Barnikel 14; A. Davis 31.
Mary Draper, Alan Rootes, Dennis Watkins, Bill Bailey 15; P. Emery 23.
