SAUNDERSFOOT 100 (10 pts) STENA FIVE ARCHES 80 (4 )
I love playing against the village side, if only for their sheer enthusiasm and exuberance, matched only by Tenby on the county bowls circuit.
Talking to John Evans before the match, I enquired why he wasn't playing? "I've had two bad games and deserved to be dropped," he said. And what was 'Evs' doing? Over to support his team and do the scoreboard. That's loyalty for you.
With players of the stature of Tony Cummins, Arthur White John Dugmore and 'Evs' on the bank, it showed the depth of the Saundersfoot side.
The Arches had certainly not turned up just to make up the numbers, and they gave as good as they got on the green.
Sam McNeilly and Dave Rice, a fiesty pair, who do not yield an inch in the 'heat of battle' have certainly gelled well together, whilst up front the improbable pairing of Phil Watkins and Ron Hurlow, both drawing players, has certainly brought results for 'Mac the Knife'.
Captain against Captain, with jovial Don Poole proving the victor this time, although Ray Holly pulled out all the stops to narrow the gap. The home side 'front men' proved a handful for Maxie and Arthur.
Doug Silcox continued his fine run with another brilliant display, and John Tyler had his best game in an Arches shirt -and was doubly pleased it was against his old club. Lee Richards was up against the experienced John Smalley and battled hard throughout the game. It was an honourable draw between Dave Poole, a gentleman on and off the green, and Mike. Dave had the misfortune when twice playing with weight to skit the jack and woods the wrong way to drop counts of four and five. The game was a lot closer than the 11-shot win for the Seasiders.
Steve Poole was in majestic form, and kept taking shots out of the head or converting them to his rink's advantage. Roy and his men didn't play badly, it was just that the home side turned the screw when it was needed.
It was a fantastic game, played in great spirit, no quarter asked or given, and the Stena Five Arches can gain some comfort from taking four points from a good Saundersfoot side.

On what turned out to be a wet evening for bowls, the Five Arches ladies suffered a 23-shot defeat at the hands of Saundersfoot on Thursday evening.
Vera Williams and her rink found Viv Edwards and her foursome on form and as a result the Arches went down 29-13.
Chris Morgan and her team picked up a six on the 13th end and drew level with the visitors18-all on the 15th end, but it was not quite enough as Saundersfoot proved the stronger, running out winners by eight shots.

TENBY 141 (14 pts)
PENDINE 41 (0)
The Jones and Jones sponsored Tenby team maintained their recent run of good form with a resounding win over Pendine.
The rink of Dai Spencer, Ben Owens, Sparky and Dave Morgan started brilliantly and kept up the pressure all game, only losing five ends as they won convincingly 31-7.
Paul Mearns, Peter Hooper, John Baggott and Paul Diment were all playing brilliant bowls, scoring five counts of five, and on the last end a superb Diment take-out shot gave them a fullhouse of eight and a 47-8 win.
Peter Day, Bert Barnikel, Dave King Thomas and skip Simon Evans started slowly yet again, but after trailing 5-0, they played steadily and, with Simon drawing brilliantly, they won 35-14.
Ian Badham, John Webb, Terry Preston and Pat Currie were up against Jim Lloyd, who managed to keep his side in the game for 14 ends, but a good scoring run by the boys - 16 shots in the last six ends - saw them home 28-12.
GOSCAR 74
FISHGUARD 98
At Fishguard on Sunday, July 1, Goscar came up against a strong team of bowlers, but they bowled well to prevent a complete trouncing.
Bill Bailey's rink and Graham Hill's rink both lost by two shots, but with some very good bowling by new skip Keith Delabertouche, his rink won by eight shots, a very good win indeed.
On the other rink skipped by Jim Taylor, they found the opposition far too strong to contain.

Lewis Hilling's rink won by seven shots with some fine bowling, and once again Keith Delabertouche had a good game.
Reg Thake had his first game as skip and played some good shots and with the good bowling from his rink came home by three shots, a very good result against a strong Fishguard team.
Rink scores (Goscar first, Fishguard skips only):
D. Watkins, E. Dorling, A. Grimbaldeston, R. Thake 15; K. Grace 12.

STENA FIVE ARCHES 88 (14 pts) PENDINE 65 (0 )
It was up to the Carmarthenshire border for the Stena Five Arches, buoyed by a battling performance against high flying Saundersfoot the previous day.
The home green has taken some stick over the years, but there were no complaints from the visitors as they came away with maximum points.
Roy Powling, with brother Tony, ably backed up by Neil Dickinson in good form, scored a six-shot win over Roy James and his rink.
Ray Holly and his men, despite dropping two counts of five, still had enough in reserve to win by six shots.
Going into the final end three shots down, Sam and his men managed a four to squeak home by a single shot. Phil and Ron again played well up front in the rink.
Doug Silcox and John Tyler both gave solid performances, while Lee Richards drew a lot of good shots into the head to enable Mike to notch up a 10-shot win against home captain Arwel Edwards, who, throughout the game, was sporting personified in his actions.
Needless to say, after the game, in the now brilliant sunshine, the Seasiders congregated by the green and celebrated their win with a few 'tinnies'. It was a good performance by the Arches side, who were still missing a few regulars, but the substitutes certainly did not disgrace themselves.
Rink scores (Arches first, Pendine skips only):
G. Crawford, A. Grimbaldeston, J. Best, R. Holly 27; J. Lloyd 21.
N. Dickinson, T. Powling, G. Beynon, R. Powling 20; R. James 14.
P. Watkins, R. Hurlow, D. Rice, S. McNeilly 18; S. King Thomas 17.
D. Silcox, J. Tyler, L. Richards, M. Crockford 23; A. Edwards 13.
