TENBY 97 (10 pts)
WHITLAND 76 (4)
On rink one, Simon Evans was drawn against Chris Court. The Tenby four found their form straightaway and with Peter Day and Bert Barnikel continually putting woods in the head, it was left to Dave King Thomas and Simon to just draw in for counts - which they did brilliantly - as they ran up a huge lead and eventually won by a convincing 33-11.
Next door, Ian Badham, Peter Hooper, John Baggot and Paul Diment took on Peter Wills. This was nip and tuck for a while, before Paul pulled away. With Peter Hooper and John Baggot both playing well, Paul guided his rink to a 24-16 win.
Pat Currie was drawn against Glyndwr Thomas, and despite trailing for the early part of the match, Paul Mearns, John Webb, Sparky and Pat kept in touch and drew level after 15 ends. The Whitland four then scored eight shots without reply and, despite a five on the 20th end, Pat and the boys eventually lost 18-23.
Dai Spencer, Ben Owens, Andrew Muskett and Dave Morgan played Steve Rees and after an even start the boys lost their way for a while and were soon trailing 20-11 after 14 ends.
A magnificent fightback, with Dai and Ben both bowling well, then saw them lead by one going into the 20th end, only for that to turn into a single shot deficit by the last and with the jack in the ditch there was nothing Dave Morgan could do as they lost by a creditable 23-26.
So a good 10 points for the team, which puts us in good stead for another tricky away fixture with Pendine midweek.
Rink scores were as follows:
P. Day, B. Barnikel, D. King Thomas, S. Evans won 33-11.
I. Badham, P. Hooper, J. Baggot, P. Diment won 24-16.
P. Mearns, J. Webb, M. Williams, P. Currie lost 18-23.
D. Spencer, B. Owens, A. Muskett, D. Morgan lost 23-26.
STENA FIVE ARCHES 88 (12 pts)
NEYLAND 73 (2)
In front of a sizeable crowd of spectators, including a number of the Tenby and Goscar players, the Stena Five Arches responded to the support to win by 15 shots over the boys from Brunel Quay.
We are a big club, with three teams all operating under the umbrella of Tenby Bowling Club, and support of whichever team is playing means a great deal to the players on the green.
It was a 'bad day at the office' for the Roy Powling quartet as Dave Sutton and his rink piled up counts of six and five in his overall 16-shot victory.
Going into the last end all-square, it was a great last bowl from Keith that ensured a one shot victory over the experienced Gordon Robson.
With a solid platform created by Phil Watkins and Ron Hurlow, who completely overwhelmed their opponents, it greatly assisted the 'back men' in Sam McNeilly's rink.
Doug Silcox again outbowled his opponents in Mike's crew, and with John Tyler having a better second half, Lee and Mike just had the edge on the Neyland boys to come home by four shots.
With captain Ray Holly indisposed, and resigned to a watching brief, he was well pleased with the result on a fabulous afternoon for playing.
That makes it three victories for the Arches team this year, and certainly gives them a boost for the remaining fixtures.
Everyone who has played for the Arches team this year is invited to a squad photograph with our sponsors Stena Line, which will take place on Thursday, July 5, at 5.45 pm. Stena Line have kindly sponsored us for three seasons, so please show your appreciation by turning up.

GOSCAR 73 ST. BRIDES 86
At home to St. Brides on Tuesday, we were unlucky to be without two of our regular skips and number three on one rink.
The two rinks did, however, give good performances to keep the scores fairly close.
On Lewis Hilling's rink they won by five shots, as did Bill Bailey's rink, but we just could not get those other shots to win the match.
Well played lads and I'm sure we will get a lot more points during the season.
Rink scores (Goscar first, St. Brides skips only):
T. Kelly, A. Rootes, E. Dorling, S. Diment 11; J. Lawrence 24.

Away to St. Brides on a very sunny evening last Wednesday, Goscar were in splendid form.
Eric Dorling had a very good game to help Lewis Hilling's rink to a fine win.
Graham Hill's rink also had a fine win and Bill Best's rink only just lost by a single shot.
On Bill Bailey's rink it was a close game, but Bill's firing shots were well on target and we won by a single shot.
We are now halfway through the league fixtures and I hope the quality of the bowling stays with us.
