TENBY 75 (2)
PEMBROKE DOCK 81 (12)
Last Saturday, the Jones and Jones Tenby team suffered their first defeat of the season. Take nothing away from the Dock's victory, but it was a very lacklustre performance from the home team who for some reason just didn't perform.
After just three ends, Tenby were 15 down across the board. Dai S, Ben, Muskie and Dave Morgan were 11-0 down to Harry Hanger's foursome, but clawed their way back to 18-all, before eventually losing on the last end 29-28, despite scoring an eight on the 18th end.
Bert, Webbie, D.K.T. and Simon also made a slow start, 17-6 down after 15 ends, but a late surge saw them just lose out by four, 19-15.
On rink three, Peter, Terry, Sparky and Pat were also finding it tough going, but with four ends to go were all-square, despite only winning six ends. However, they didn't score again, losing 19-13.
The only highlight of the day came on rink one where Paul M., Hooperman, John and Paul Diment won against Les Davies's strong rink, 19-14, to give Tenby two points.
Although only losing by six shots, this was a poor showing by the team to only take two points from the match, and the team will be eager to bounce back against the Five Arches this weekend.
Rink scores were as follows:
P. Mearns, P. Hooper, J. Baggot, P. Diment won 19-14.
B. Barnikel, J. Webb, D. King-Thomas, S. Evans lost 15-19.
P. Day, T. Preston, M. Williams, P. Currie lost 13-19.
D. Spencer, B. Owens, A. Muskett, D. Morgan lost 28-29.

STENA FIVE ARCHES
53 (8 pts)
On a bright and breezy afternoon, the Stena sponsored side travelled to Milford Haven to try to reverse the scoreline suffered by the Seasiders at the hands of the Milford team at Tenby recently.
With a fast green, conditions were ideal for a lovely bowls afternoon. It certainly was for Roy Powling and his men as they had a six-shot victory over wise cracking Tony Elliatt and his rink. The difference would have been more were it not for Tony himself who saved many shots over the afternoon.
Tony and Neil were solid up front, while Gwyn Beynon was his usual reliable self. After writing this, Gwyn, you can now buy me a pint! Roy held the rink together in his usual quiet effortless way.
County skip Ernie Sturley was too hot for Ray Holly and his men, and as Ray self confessed, it was his poorest game for a long time. One bright spot was the play of Doug Silcox. The rink went down by 20 shots.
For Mike and his men it was pretty even until tea, then Maxie and John somehow lost the plot, and a disastrous count of five on the last end saw defeat by 14 shots.
Only scoring on five ends, Sam McNeilly's quartet went down by 10 shots.
Again there were leading players unavailable, and normally sound players grossly under-achieving, which all contributed to a pretty heavy defeat for the newly-promoted Stena Five Arches. We all have to accept defeat, but it is the big shot differences that hurt the Arches' players.
Rink scores (Stena Five Arches first, Milford skips only):
R. Hurlow, P. Watkins, D. Rice, S. McNeilly 14; D. Griffiths 24.
N. Dickinson, T. Powling, G. Beynon, R. Powling 21; T. Elliatt 15.
D. Silcox, L. Richards, A. Grimbaldeston, R. Holly 6; E. Sturley 26.
M. Donoghue, J. Tyler, K. Hubbard, M. Crockford 12, R. Thomas 26.

Away to Pembroke Dock B on Sunday was a hard fought game, with Eric Dorling's rink coming back from 17-5 down to win 22-20.
Graham Hill's rink, with Jonathan Hubbard having a fine game, came home to a good win.

CASTLE (H'WEST) 83 GOSCAR 66
Tuesday at Castle, with an absence of key players, we lost heavily on two rinks, but Billy Best's rink, with the borrowed Mike Crockford, had a good win, and Bill Bailey's rink, after a bad start, came good with some fine bowling to win also.

A. Vincent, J. Richards, J. Lester, J. Hubbard 14; T. Chalmers 28.
H. Meads, A. Fursse, R. Thake, B. Bailey 18; J. M. Jones 14.

ROSS ON WYE 138
Friday was June 1, and we were delighted to welcome the Ross on Wye team to our green for a six-rink men's match (writes JK). It had been with great difficulty that we had managed to get 22 of our men folk to put their names to paper and in the end two of our very stalwart ladies filled the missing places. Our sincere thanks to you both.
The first 10 ends before tea showed very mixed fortunes for many of the Tenby rinks and in the tea interval both captains offered their appreciation to the wonderful ladies who had provided the refreshments.
Ross on Wye complimented Tenby on the wonderful condition of their green.
After tea, on some rinks things seemed to improve, but others didn't quite make the grade. The final scores were as follows (Tenby first, Ross on Wye skips only):
G. Crawford, M. Evans, P. Barnikel, B. Barnikel 6; R. Barnes 39.
J. Lester, T. Kelly, R. Thake, B. Best 24; T. Duberley 17.
L. Delabertouche, J. King, J. Taylor, T. Preston 26; R. Cooke 19.
J. Richards D. Watkins, L. Richards, B. Bailey 13; C. Joyce 23.
M. Donoghue, H. Meads, R. Hughes, J. Baggott 24; R. Pearce 21.
N. Dickinson, A. Fursse, A. Grimbaldeston, G. Beynon 18; B. Payne 19.
It was a very sporting and friendly game and on the day the best team won.
After the match, the Ross on Wye party enjoyed a buffet and a friendly drink with many of the Tenby members who stayed behind.
After some mathematical calculations the kitty was presented to Bill Best's rink and the Ross on Wye captain made some presentations to his winning rink and highest losing rink amid much merriment.
Later in the evening, many of the Ross on Wye party returned to the club and were entertained by John King at the organ. I know it was a good night, my head told me so in the morning!
Captain of the day John King would like to thank all the Tenby members who took part and would ask that many more players put their names down for future friendly matches without persuasion. Please support your club. We are worth it.
TENBY LADIES 37
PEMBROKE DOCK
LADIES 35
It was a narrow but sweet victory for the Tenby Ladies in the return match against Pembroke Dock Ladies at Tenby last Saturday.
Joan Dorling's rink was 12-17 down on the 17th end, but by the last end they had clawed back five shots to tie at 17-all.
Mair Marquiss's rink was all square on the 18th end and they went on to gain a fine two-shot win.
Rink scores (Tenby first, visiting skips only):
M. Skyrme, P. Barnikel, P. Best, J. Dorling 17; D. Davies 17.
T. Brace, L. Evans, M. Morris, M. Marquiss 20; J. Harries 18.
MILFORD 41
FIVE ARCHES LADIES 55
The Five Arches ladies completed the 'double' over Milford Haven on Saturday when they beat them by 14 shots.
Chris Morgan and her rink set up the win for the Arches as they cruised to an excellent 25-shot victory over Margaret Carter.
It was not the same story for Ceris Hewlings and her quartet, however, as they struggled throughout the game and were 19-3 down at 10 ends.
The Arches picked up after tea, and a superb take-out shot by Ceris on the 16th end for a count of six saw the Arches come within five of their opponents, but unfortunately it was not quite enough as Milford had the final word, winning by 11-shots.
Rink scores (Arches first, Milford skips only):
A. Redman, G. Gray, A. Owens, C. Morgan 38; M. Carter 13.
B. Russell, M. Cooke, A. Hubbard, C. Hewlings 17; J. Navas 28.

MILLENNIUM
TOURNAMENT
After a few hiccups concerning reaching and maintaining the full complement required, an enjoyable day's bowling was enjoyed by all competitors, although there appeared tobe some aches and pains in the aftermath (writes Sam Mac).
The winning team captained by Sian Williams, 'Group F', had a narrow one point margin over the Paul Diment 'E Group', the winning group receiving £300 and the runners-up £200.
I have written and personally thanked Toy and Partners, Acorn Leisure and Coral for their very kind and grateful sponsorship for the two years, bringing the millennium tournament to an end.
Thanks also go to the Saundersfoot quartet who took part at short notice, and to my two mathematicians, Tony Lamb and Colin Hill.
SCHOOL
COACHING
