Dublin bound!
Congratulations to Ceris Hewlings and Janine Bancroft who have retained their places in the Welsh women's under 25 side for the junior international series to be held in Ireland this summer.
The team, which has only seen one change since they won the series last year, are keeping their fingers crossed that they will repeat the success when they play in Dublin at the end of July.
Ceris will be playing third to Kerry Frayling from Haverfordwest, while Janine will be playing number three to Emma Moorhouse, of Taffs Well.
Also representing Pembrokeshire in the team will be Natalie Jones, also of Haverfordwest, while Hannah Thomas from Whitland has been selected as the squad's non-travelling reserve.
The players warm up with two practice matches - one against West Wales Ladies at Tenby on June 17 and the other against Montgomeryshire Under 35 men at Llanidloes on July 15.
STENA FIVE ARCHES 57 TENBY 125
With both sides not at full strength, it was the superior play of the Tenby team that saw them home. Tenby have enough quality players to cover the absence of a few regulars, whereas the Arches do not have sufficient cover. The reserves that Tenby brought in all acquitted themselves more than adequately, whilst Jock Best did likewise for the Arches team.
It was a comprehensive defeat and the selectors will have to rejig the side if they are going to have any success in the top division. Although, to be fair, the Arches side do no have a wealth of players to chose from, and if there are any unavailable for whatever reason, then the options are restricted.
Easing himself back to full fitness, Pat Currie, with fellow "back man" Terry Preston were in good form, although Roy Powling and his rink pushed them all the way to eventually go down by one shot.
Simon Evans was in sparkling form, aided by some excellent bowling from Johnathon Webb and Dave King Thomas. Jock Best tested his younger lead Ian Badham all the way, but Mike's rink were 32 shots to seven down, but managed to salvage some respect in the end by scoring seven shots over the last three ends. Former Arches player Dai Spencer and Andrew Muskett impressed for affable Dave Morgan's rink. Three counts of five and two of four whether drawing shot or playing woods with weight, and some of "Sparky's" driving was pretty impressive to say the least!!!
After such a wonderful start for the Stena Line sponsored Five Arches, the wheels certainly have come off the trolley, but there is still a long way to go, and with all players available they can still upset some teams.
For the Jones and Jones, Solicitors sponsored Tenby side, they have now set their sights on regaining the League title, and with Haverfordwest losing to Whitland over the weekend, they must really fancy their chances. Match sponsor was Mavis Holly.
Results (Stena Five Arches first) were:
J. Taylor, R. Theake, L. Richards, S. McNeilly 11; P. Mearns, B. Barnikel, J. Baggott, M. Williams 36.
P. Watkins, D. Silcox, A. Grimbaldeston, R. Holly 14; D. Spencer, B. Owens, A. Muskett, D. Morgan 32.
J. Best, J. Tyler, K. Hubbard, M. Crockford 11; I. Badham, J. Webb, D. King Thomas, S. Evans 35.
W. Russell, T. Powling, G. Beynon, R. Powling 21; K. Deli, A. Redman, T. Preston, P. Currie 22.

JUNIOR BOWLS DEVELOPMENT SCHEME
Next Friday, June 8, sees the first lesson on the finer arts of lawn green bowling given to the youngsters of St. Teilo's School. Approximately 30 children will attend the first session between 1 and 2 pm.
Instructing will be several official Welsh coaches, all from the Tenby Bowls Club under the watchful eyes of area coach David Jones. David has recently put Pauline Barnikel and Ron Hurlow successfully through the official coaching course with this children's project in mind.
David Jones has requested that all participating coaches and all of the helpers attend a briefing session tonight (Friday), June 1, at 7.30 pm.
NEW LAWN MOWER
Tenby's management committee have agreed to purchase the new mower (a bargain) following the demonstration. If any member wishes to help financially with an interest free loan over three years, they may do so now. Initial response has been most encouraging, with some members gifting generously to this particular project.
