WHERE have seven years flown?
Yes - would you believe that it is seven years since the last Bosom Pals Towns Walk, when over 160 women, men, teenagers and children walked three miles around Tenby to raise money for the Cancer Laboratory at Cardiff University (writes J.W.).
The walk is named after our dear friend Denise Towns. Denise was with us for the walk in July 2004, but sadly lost her battle with cancer in October 2004.
In the intervening years, other friends have succumbed to this dreadful disease. Thankfully many have survived the ordeal - but quite a few have not.
So here we are again - raising awareness and funds for the laboratory in Cardiff. When we presented the cheque for over £9000, to Professor Alan Clarke, back in 2004, he was astounded and delighted with the amount.
Cardiff University is a centre of excellence, and it aims to boost research activities, and increase the rate at which findings are translated into therapies and tailored to patient needs.
Professor Clarke's main interest is in the molecular basis of cancer, particularly in the very early stages, when cells initially diverge from normality.
This year's walk takes place on Friday, June 24. Registration is from 6.20 pm, with a gentle warm-up at 6.45, with the walk beginning at 7 pm. Come rain or shine, the walk will start and finish at the bottom of the North Walk zigzag and weave around Tenby.
All the organisers ask is that participants walk in their bras - don't be shy, be proud of your feminine attributes, and grateful that you are well enough to walk. There will also be a prize for the 'best decorated bra'.
The walk is open to all and the entry fee is £5. Entry and sponsorship forms are available from Jayne Osborne at Jazz Radio, Janina at Janina Louise and the lingerie department at T. P. Hughes, Averil on 0891391722, Julia on 07891767814 or Ruth on 843504.
Please come and join us to make this an evening of fun, laughter and friendship - all in aid of a good cause.
