Whitland 6 pts. Tonmawr 12

Whitland lost their first game of the season and, after an under par performance, no one could complain. Tonmawr fully deserved their victory, playing the game at a much higher tempo, although the Borderers did pick up a losing bonus point.

Tonmawr took the lead after just 10 mintues when flanker Ejike Ozoigwe, known as Edge, touched down for a try, with centre Daniel Roberts adding the extras with a successful conversion.

Aled Davies cut the lead for Whitland with a penalty after 14 minutes when, after a good break by fullback Carwyn Jones, the Tonmawr backline was caught offside.

As the Borderers started to come more and more into the game, a simple handling error allowed Tonmawr to counter-attack and winger Gareth John touched down for an unconverted try, to leave the half-time score 12-3 to the visitors.

Whitland's hopes were raised early in the second half when fly-half Aled Davies kicked his second penalty, but this was to be the last score of the afternoon.

Indeed, the game somewhat petered out after that, with yellow cards being shown to replacement second row Hywel Davies for Tonmawr and some four mintues later to Whitland prop Craig Kelly and prop Ceri Jones for Tonmawr, which meant passive scrums in the latter stages.

Match referee was Mr. Wayne Davies, Llannon.

Whitland SECONDS 25 pts. Llandovery SECONDS 29

Whitland welcomed last year's champions to Parc Dr. Owen, on Saturday, and with both sides unbeaten this year, a great game of rugby was in store, and supporters of both sides were not disappointed as they witnessed an open, running game, with Llandovery winning by 29 points to 25.

At half-time the scores were level at 10 points each, hooker Andrew 'Tank' Davies getting a try and fullback Darren Rees converting and also adding a penalty for Whitland.

In reply, Llandovery scored two unconverted tries, by prop Rees Richards and second row Rob Hughes.

In the second-half, centre Alex Pickersgill scored two tries and again Darren Rees converted one and also kicked a penalty, but Llandovery scored three tries through scrum-half Aled Jenkins, flanker Dylan Thomas and outside-half Ioan Davies, who also converted two to give his side a hard fought win.

Cardigan Youth 21 pts. Whitland Youth 24

Whitland Youth maintained their 100 per cent winning start to the new season away to Cardigan with a  24 points to 21 victory.

It was a close run thing, though, as after being 24-7 up, they had to withstand a fightback by the home side, who scored two converted tries to cut the lead to 24-21, but hang on the young Borderers did.

Whitland held a first half lead of 12-7, crossing for two tries by outside-half Scott Newton and flanker Yannick Parker, with Newton converting one.

In the second half, centre Lewis Thomas touched down twice for Whitland, again with Newton converting one.
