Whitland 1st XV 14 pts. Tonmawr 22

Whitland were in this game all the way and could have completed the double over would-be champions Tonmawr, who were an excellent side and produced some great handling. As one supportter said afterwards: "If only we could play like that on a consitent basis, we would have been up the top with the likes of Tonmawr and Carmarthen Quins." Tonmawr threw the ball around from the start and after 15 minutes Whitland's Mark Jones was yellow- carded for slowing the ball down. From the resultant penalty, the visitors kicked for the corner and, after winning the lineout, the forwards drove over for the opening try, with hooker Rhys Lawrence getting the touch down. Outside-half Austin Howells added the extras with a successful conversion. From the restart, Tonmawr used the ball quickly and created an overlap for winger Micky Evans to touch down in the corner for unconverted try. Whitland responded with a try of their own after 27 minutes when fly-half Emyr Williams made a break and brought in winger Dion Thomas, who made the touch down. Williams added the two points from the conversion, but failed with a penalty some seven minutes later to leave the half-time score 12 points to seven in Tonmawr's favour. Three minutes into the second half, Whitland took the lead. When Ryan Michael gained possession at the back of a lineout, scrum-half Gareth Davies made a break, before number 10 Williams took the ball on. As the defence came up, he kicked through for fullback Will Davies to chase and score the try, which Williams converted to put his side in front at 14-12. The lead was shortlived, however, as four minutes later Tonmawr regained the advantage with a penalty by replacement outside-half Rob Evans, which took the score to 15-14. And this was how it remained until well into injury time, with both sides looking for the all-important winning score, but it was Tonmawr's captain and number eight Rob Hill who sealed it with a try, which Evans converted to give the visitors victory by 22 points to 14.
