Bonymaen 24 pts. Whitland 21

Whitland came away from this Swalec League Division One West match with Bonymaen with a losing bonus point, but it should have been a lot more as once again missed opportunities proved costly.

Whitland took the lead after only two minutes with a Huw Rees penalty.

After some great work by the forwards, some 15 minutes later outside-half Carwyn Jones failed with a drop goal attempt.

With Whitland attacking, Bonymaen's prop Richard Murphy came in from the side and killed the ball, for which he was yellow carded, and from the resultant penalty scrum-half Huw Rees doubled his side's lead.

Bonymaen hit back immediately when winger Nick Harwood scored a try which outside-half Paul Warlow converted to give the home side the lead by seven points to six.

Whitland then scored two tries before the break, the first by centre Gary Evans when after a great litle chip by Carwyn Jones, Evans gathered to score, with Rees converting.

The second came after some great handling down the narrow side by winger Dion Thomas and fullback Johnny Morgan, with skipper Ryan Michael on hand to finish it off with an unconverted try to give the Borderers a healthy lead at the break by 18 points to seven.

Bonymaen, now playing with the stiff breeze and down the slope, hit back early when Paul Warlow put in a deep kick and Dion Thomas was forced to take the ball over, resulting in a scrum-five to the home side. Gaining possseion from this, winger Harwood joined the line and a poor missed tackle let him in for his second try of the afternoon, which Warlow converted to double the home side's score.

Ten mintues later, Whitland attacked and were again stopped by winger Leon Gallagher coming in and killing the ball, which he too was yellow carded for.

Instead of going for the three points with the boot, Whitland opted for the scrum, but this came to nothing.

After 23 minutes, Warlow failed with a penalty, but from the drop out Whitland were caught offside and he had a chance again, but hit the post. Whitland gathered the ball, but when the clearing kick was half charged down, it went straight into the hands of centre Neil Wilcox, who scored under the posts and Warlow converted to take Bonymaen into a 21-18 lead.

Three minutes later, Huw Rees had the chance to level the scores, but missed a penalty, and he again failed with another attempt with just five minutes remaining.

It was a case of third time lucky as he eventually landed one after 37 minutes to level the score, only for Paul Warlow to drop a goal some two minutes from time to give the home side victory and leave Whitland reflecting on the the one that got away!

Whitland 2nd XV 3 pts. Bonymaen 2nd XV 7

Whitland Seconds played home to Bonymaen Seconds in the Carmarthen Tyre Services Championship.

It was a disappointing match which promised so much, but failed to deliver.

Whitland's only ploints in their 7-3 defeat came from the boot of fullback Ross Michael who kicked a penalty.

Crymych Youth 7 pts. Whitland Youth 6

The young Borderers lost their grip on the Pembrokeshire Youth Cup when they went down in a very tight game away at Crymych by seven points to six.

All the points came in the first half, with Nico Setaro kicking two penalties for Whitland and Carwyn Rees getting the all-important try for the home side, which was converted.

Although no points were scored in the second half, both teams played some great rugby and the crowd were well entertained.
