Haverfordwest 6 pts. Whitland 26

Whitland booked their place in the next round of the Pembrokeshire Chevron KO Cup with an unconvincing victory away at Haverfordwest by 26 points to six on Friday. Haverfordwest battled hard, but even with Whitland not firing on all cylinders, especially behind, they were too strong. Whitland scored two tries in each half, first by Jonny Morgan and then centre Gary Evans, with outside- half Emyr Williams converting both. Haverfordwest's only points came from two Steve Williams penalties, with the half-time score 14-6 to the Borderers. The Green and Whites ran in two second half tries by second row Raff Williams and outside-half Emyr Williams, with the latter converting his own to leave the full-time score 26-6 in Whitland's favour.

Whitland Ladies 5 pts. Pontyclun ladies 62

The previous Sunday, Whitland Ladies played Division One opposition in the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup and did themselves proud with a very gutsy display. Up front, they more than held their own, but Pontyclun's backs were awesome and the back three outstanding. Pontyclun ran in five first half tries through centre Laureen Yates and two apiece from winger Natasha Peters and fullback Sophia Francis, with outside- half Nia Hughes converting three of them. Whitland did cross for a try by prop and Welsh international Nat Bowen, who led from the front, but this was unconverted to leave the half-time score 31 points to five in favour of the visitors. The second half was one-way traffic as again Pontyclun ran in a further five tries, from centre Zoe Wells, two from fullback Peters, one from winger Yates and another by fly-half Hughes, who again converted three to give a full-time score of 62-5.

Whitland Ladies 17 pts. Neath Ladies 21

Neath Ladies completed the double over Whitland by again kicking their goals and, although Whitland dominated up front, they lacked penetration behind in this National League Division Two South game on Sunday. The first half saw Whitland play with the stiff breeze and lead at half-time through two unconverted tries by outside-half Karen Maisy, one after seven minutes and the other on the stroke of half-time. In the second half, Neath used the ball better behind and ran in three tries, two by outside-half Charlie Murray and one by winger Tina Ellis, with Bethan Pryce converting all three to give them a 21 -10 lead. Whitland never gave up and hit back with a try by centre Natalie Walsh, converted by Karen Walsh, to set up a tense last five minutes. And when Neath were reduced to 14 players when their centre was red-carded for punching, it looked like Whitland Ladies would gain the victory, but the visitors managed to hold on and complete the double over the Borderers. Whitland Youth 36 pts. Pembroke 5

The young Borderers were far too strong for Pembroke in this Scarlets Division D Section league match, which was played in wind and driving rain on Monday evening. But take nothing away from the visitors, they played with great determination throughout and never gave up trying. Indeed, credit must be given to both sides for playing some excellent rugby in very difficult conditions, but in the end it was Whitland who maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the league. Whitland opened the scoring early when lock Lewis Owen touched down for the first try, which centre James Stephenson converted, and shortly after, flanker Dan Evans also touched down after been driven over by the pack from a driving maul; this was unconverted. Pembroke then scored their only points of the game when, after a good drive by the forwards, Mathew Jackson crossed for an unconverted try. Whitland bagged their third try before half-time after a great break by outside-half Jonny Thomas, who set up centre James Stephenson, and he also added the two points to leave the half-time score 19 points to five to Whitland. Whitland again dominated the second half, running in a further three tries through Jonny Thomas, who ran in from 55 metres after a quick tap penalty by scrum-half Dafydd Evans, centre Daniel Newton, who got in on the act after another good break by Thomas, and fullback Jonny Morgan, who rounded off an efficient all-round performance by the Borderers. Centre Stephenson failed with the last two conversion attempts, but added the extras to the Thomas try.
