Whitland 1st XV made it a hat-trick of cup finals for the club on Wednesday night when they dumped Tenby United out of the Pembrokeshire Knockout Cup. The team will join the Youth and the Wanderers in their respective finals... and amazingly all are against Crymych! The gulf in class was evident in this semi-final clash as Whitland, still with faint hopes of promotion from National League division one, cruised to a comfortable victory over their division three west opponents. By half-time, the Borderers were well in control, having opened up a healthy 17-0 advantage at the break. Scrum-half Luke Marsh set the ball rolling with the evening's opening try, which was converted by outside-half Aled Davies, and further first half touchdowns came from back row men John Bowen and skipper Phil Morgan, both of which were unconverted. The United are renowned cup fighters, but despite their brave efforts, Whitland continued to hold the upper hand as they increased their lead in the second half with two more tries by powerful second row Rawhitti Williams and Barry John. Aled Davies converted the latter to round off the Borderers' scoring, but perhaps as just reward for their never-say-die attitude, it was the United who had the final say of the night as prop Scott Payne crashed over for a late consolation try. It went unconverted to leave Whitland celebrating a 29-5 success and another final place, in what looks like being a memorable season for the club.
