WHITLAND 10 pts.
CARMARTHEN ATH. 24
Whitland were unceremoniously dumped out of the Swalec Welsh Cup in the first round on Saturday as visitors Carmarthen Athletic totally deserved their win, showing more passion and get-up-and-go than the home side.
Fullback Mike Sauro kicked a penalty for the Athletic after 15 minutes, which was cancelled out by outside-half Jonathan Thomas for Whitland some three minutes later.
Carmarthen then scored the only try of the first half when hooker Gethin Robinson got the touch down from a driving maul. Sauro failed with the conversion attempt, but he did add a further penalty just before the break to extend the Athletic's lead at half-time to 11 points to three.
Seven minutes into the second half, Gethin Robinson got his and Carmarthen's second try, which again Sauro failed to convert.
And they extended their lead even further 10 minutes from time, when they bagged a third try by outside-half Rhys Lane, who was allowed to run from his 10-metre line across field and then up the touchline to score, which summed up Whitland's poor performance on the afternoon
Again Sauro failed with the conversion, he but did add his third penalty some eight minutes later to put the Athletic well and truly out of sight.
Whitland did manage to score a late consolation try by replacement winger Will Davies which replacement Huw Rees converted to leave the full-time score 24 points to 10 to the visitors.

WHITLAND
SECONDS
Whitland Seconds travelled to Carmarthen Quins, having lost narrowly at home by a single point. They were hoping to overturn this and led at half-time by six points to five, with two penalties by centre Steve Aston.
But it was not meant to be as they failed to add to their points tally and went down in the end by 21 points to six.
