Next Wednesday, November 21, at Narberth Wilson Museum at 7 pm, the West Wales Children's Book Group is playing host to Alan Durant, and are promising 'stories and laughter with this extremely popular children's author'.
Alan Durant is head of copywriting at Walker Books, and a prolific author in his own right. He has published scores of picture books, and stories for older children and teenagers. His best-selling series Creepe Hall has ghostly goings-on reminiscent of the Addams Family and the Bad Boys series is set around a junior school football team. As for his latest book for younger children, Big Bad Bunny promises a furry friend in cowboy guise!
Alan will be talking about how he writes, reading from his latest books, and signing copies afterwards. His books will be available from the museum gift shop - ideal Christmas presents! The age guide is eight-plus, and tickets cost members £1, and non-members £2 (on the door).
The West Wales Children's Book Group is also inviting people along to its annual meeting. As secretary Karen Chandler explained: "We know the idea of an annual meeting isn't exciting, but it's downright essential for us as a charity. It's on Monday, November 26, at 7 pm at the Old Cross Hotel, St. David's, and we really need as many people as possible who are interested in children's literature in our area to turn up, not just because we need a legal quorum, but because we need new blood and new ideas on the committee. We're hoping to host a major children's book festival in 2003 - now's the chance to be a part of it."
The West Wales Children's Book Group works with children and young people by providing a variety of book-related activities, from practical workshops such as this to author and illustrator talks in schools, and from participation in the Children's Book Awards to donations of books to schools and playgroups.
