The bomb disposal unit was called to Tenby Museum and Art Gallery on Wednesday to remove a dangerous war-related artefact.

The ARP warden's chemical kit used for identifying hazardous chemicals fired during World War Two was found to contain poisonous mustard gas during a routine inspection by the army.

The item had been donated to the museum by the family of the late Detective Inspector Howard Geoffrey Hart, who was Mayor of Tenby in 1953.

A routine check of the museum's exhibits discovered a leather pouch of about four inches square, marked with 'Property of the Home Office' and 'Dangerous Chemicals'.

Also written on the artefact was: 'Anyone finding this case should take it at once without opening to the nearest police station'.

The item was taken away by the Royal Logistics Corp Bomb Disposal Unit from Gloucester.
