Span Arts and Tenby Blues Festival are pleased to present a festival warm-up with two leading British blues players, in the form of the Jay Tamkin Band and Chris Quinn, performing at Queens Hall, Narberth, next Friday, June 7.
Still in his early 20s, Jay Tamkin (above) has achieved so much; as a singer, songwriter and versatile instrumentalist, he has been described as 'a young Jimi Hendrix'. Green Man magazine recently proclaimed that his band 'is just what the genre has been waiting for'.
Jay Tamkin first performed at Tenby Blues Festival in 2009, a youthful, guitar-wielding sensation. Since then, he's matured into a 'congenital talent', says Classic Rock magazine, blowing away critics with 'instinctive guitar mangling and hip-bucking groove' on his latest album, Alibi.
As well as having recently performed on Glastonbury's main stage and at the BBC Maida Vale studios, this young British bluesman has shared the bill with a list of legends, including Jools Holland, Roy Ayers, The Blockheads, John Mayall, Robin Trower, Eric Burdon, Madeline Bell, and the Blind Boys of Alabama.
Chris Quinn's songwriting has been widely acclaimed in the national press and he has a growing reputation as a great live performer. As Hickman and Quinn, Chris (below) is well-known in the UK's folk and roots scene, and he's also part of the world famous Robin Nolan Trio, one of the hottest gypsy jazz acts on the planet!
The man described by Maverick magazine as 'a master of the acoustic guitar' covers a wide range of music, from bluegrass flatpicking to beautiful interpretations of British folk, and from hot swing jazz pieces to mean finger-style delta blues guitar.
His career so far has included playing at BB Kings Blues Club in New York, touring with Hickman & Quinn as the opening act with The Jools Holland Orchestra, and performing with the Robin Nolan Trio at the Royal Albert Hall.
Support comes from Pembrokeshire's own Julian Murphy, alongside guitarist Marc Davies. Together they will be playing acoustic versions of their own music.
Doors open at 8 pm. Tickets are £9/£7 concessions, available in advance from Span Arts box office 01834 869 323 or http://www.span-arts.org.uk">www.span-arts.org.uk.
