Blooming marvellous! Tenby has come up trumps yet again in the prestigious Wales in Bloom competition. The resort has retained its title as the best small country town, an accolade it has held no less than 22 times previously. "We're delighted and thrilled to win the award for the 23rd time and would like to thank everyone who took part in some small way, from the schools, right through to the street cleaners," said chairman of the Tenby in Bloom committee, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane. "The criteria is so high in judging this competition that every little bit helps." "Hopefully, this result will encourage more people to take part in next year's Tenby in Bloom contest and make the town a brighter and tidier place again next year," added Clr. Mrs. Lane who has her fingers crossed for Tenby's chances in success in the Britain in Bloom event. Others named amongst the awards from the town included The Giltar Hotel who came second in the hotels, guest houses and restaurants frontage section, Well Park Caravans, New Hedges, which picked-up second place in the caravans static or touring, camping and holiday home sites 50-100 units group, and St. Mary's Church which received a merit in the public buildings - frontage and grounds category. This was the first year that St. Mary's Church has entered. Elsewhere, Saundersfoot Harbour received a merit in the commercial/retail enterprise - over 15m display class for the second year running, Pendeilo Leisure Park in Amroth which won a merit in the caravans static or touring, camping and holiday home sites under 50 units section, and Monkton Priory Community School which came third in the schools gardening and environment competition. This year's Wales in Bloom awards ceremony will be held on Friday, September 28, at Caerphilly Castle.
