A local NHS worker is donning his tuxedo and organising a charity ball in order to raise money for a mammoth fund-raising cycle.

Chris Tattersall, manager from the research and development unit, at Hywel Dda Health Board, is undertaking a 1,500-mile cycle ride from the south coast of the UK to Morocco on the North Coast of Africa.

The lone, unsupported challenge is in aid of Wales Air Ambulance and Tenby Sea Cadets. It takes place in March 2010 and in the meantime Chris, from Haverfordwest, is organising a range of fund-raising events, including a black tie and gown charity ball in February.

Chris said: "After kayaking the Thames in 2007 for charity, I have been keen to get back to cycling longer than necessary distances, so cycling to Africa will certainly be that, and hopefully raise a good deal of money in the process.

"I am hoping that colleagues in the NHS, friends, family, and local supporters of the benefiting charities will support the cause and get their glad rags on for the ball in February."

The black tie and ball gown event takes place at the Wolfscastle Hotel, Haverfordwest, on Saturday, February 6, 2010, and the £35 ticket includes a three-course meal, raffle and entertainment. Chris is also appealing for any local businesses that may want to support the venture. Contact Chris for tickets on 01437 773823 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
