A CD by two Pembrokeshire musicians, who have joined forces for the first time in nearly 30 years, is set to give a boost to a local charity.

Tenby native Bill Cole, now of Reynalton, has teamed up with Ray Dony, of Pembroke Dock, to record and release an 11-track album under the name of Billy and Ray, with all proceeds from sales going to the Carew Branch of Cancer Research UK.

The album, which features the duo taking up both vocal and guitar duties, was recorded in Studio 49 in Narberth.

Bill has been playing gigs since the early '60s in various bands and still forms half of 'Double Image', while Ray has played as part of the duo 'Pair Of Chancers'.

Although both Bill and Ray have known each other for many years on the music circuit, the recording of this CD, which is called 'From Here To There To You', is the first time they have collaborated since they were once in the country band 'Black Gold' together back in 1982.

"Recording a charity record is something I've thought about doing for the past year or two. Music has given so much to me over the years that I thought it would be nice to give something back through music," said Bill.

"It was by pure chance that I was sitting in the dentist in Narberth when I saw the poster for the recording studio nearby, so I phoned Ray and talked about the idea and he was delighted to come on board.

"Nick Swannell, who runs the studio, produced the album and also played bass on the tracks," he continued.

"We'd like to thank Park Hotel in Tenby for sponsoring the record, along with Lesley Locke. We also received another very generous donation from one person which we are very grateful for.

"We hope that people will enjoy the album and that it will raise a lot of money for a worthwhile cause," added Bill.

Billy and Ray will be appearing playing acoustically and promoting their charity CD at a pig roast and fete at Cresswell Quay on Friday, July 15, from 6 pm, which is being held in conjunction with the Carew Branch of Cancer Research.

The pair will also be playing at a 'cream tea' charity event at Tenby Cottage Hospital on the afternoon of Friday, August 5.
