Radio Pembrokeshire's popular Friday night sport show with Bill and Ben triumphed recently, scooping the title of specialist programme of the year at the 2010 Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards.
The awards are open to commercial radio stations from all over the UK and the programme, presented by Bill Carne and Ben Stone, saw off competition on the night from stations in Oxford and Scotland to win the prize.
The show was launched in August of last year and broadcasts on Radio Pembrokeshire every Friday night between 6 and 8 pm.
The Arqiva awards ceremony, which can be entered by over 300 commercial radio stations from all over the United Kingdom, was held at the Westminster Park Plaza, and with Ben on holiday, Bill took to the stage with a cardboard cut out, provided by Llanion Signs!
Co-host and programme manager at Radio Pembrokeshire, Ben Stone, was delighted to win the prize: "It's a huge honour that a show I take a lot of enjoyment from presenting has won a national award. It's brilliant to put Pembrokeshire on the map in this way. Working with Bill is great fun and he has the biggest contact book of sporting people in the county that I've ever seen."
For Bill, the success of the Friday night sport show is all down to the characters from the world of Pembrokeshire sport.
"Every week we have some fantastic guests who are all contributing to sport in Pembrokeshire and both Ben and I feel privileged to speak to them. My little partner on the show also plays a significant role with his broadcasting expertise."
The Arqiva judges noted it was the sheer variety that the programme offers that caught their eye - and after a year broadcasting together Bill and Ben have already interviewed rugby playing vicars and kick-boxing grannies, so who knows what's in store over the next 12 months!
