SPAN, the dynamic Arts group based in Narberth, are confident that this year's Big Plant Sale in the playground of Narberth CP School will be the biggest and brightest yet.

This unique event, which is now celebrating its 10th anniversary, features all you need to make your garden the colourful show of the neighbourhood this summer. There will be stalls from large nurseries featuring rare and beautiful plants and every kind of garden need from ornaments to compost. Small scale specialist growers are also featured alongside craft and general interest stalls from parent groups of local schools.

There will be live music from talented Pembrokeshire troubadour Mike Chant and friends, and Ceili music from Narberth Ceili Band. There will be delicious food from International Eats, and children's workshops.

Many local charities will be there to raise funds and the proceeds from the Big Plant Sale go to enhance the SPAN programme of concerts and art workshops for children and adults in Narberth and beyond through the coming year.

Over the Easter holidays, SPAN held two days of children's workshops in Batik dyeing, so look out for colourful flags.

SPAN have just acquired and refurbished a building as a space for arts activities with help from arts lottery and RDS funding. The SPAN building has space for workshops, exhibitions and small performances and will be staffed by two new employees.

Over the next month equipment will be installed to offer a range of activities and 'tasting' opportunities for residents and visitors. There will be an exhibition of photographs of the specially commissioned bench that was created by the Peterson brothers and members of Narberth Youth Club on view in the building at the Big Plant Sale.

The next SPAN promotions are The Rough Guide to Cymru Tour featuring Wales' top traditional music artists Fernhill at the Queens Hall on May 10, and African super-group Batanai Marimba, at the Queens Function Centre in Haverfordwest on Friday, May 17.

SPAN will be helping to programme the showcase for young musicians at the County Show this year and would like to hear from any group of young musicians, singers, poets, ranters and rappers interested in performing.
