The De Valence in Tenby was the venue for a fantastic evening of Big Band music featuring Pembrokeshire Schools' Big Bands and Jazz Ensemble and Bristol University Hornstars.
The event was organised by the Pembrokeshire County Council Music Service, sponsored by Chevron in aid of the RNLI Tenby.
The evening was presented by county music co-ordinator Chris Llewellyn, who introduced Pembrokeshire Schools' Junior Jazz, directed by Judy Pyart, Pembrokeshire Schools' Big Band, directed by Tim Bourne, and Pembrokeshire Schools' Jazz Ensemble, directed by Gareth Sanders. Each band performed a wide range of popular big band classics.
On behalf of Chevron, Jane James thanked the young performers and congratulated them on their high standard of performance. Janet Thomas, of RNLI, thanked everyone for supporting the evening and the Tenby Lifeboat.
The highlight of the evening was the performance of the Bristol University Hornstars. The group of students are based at Bristol University and perform throughout Britain at various functions and events. They are the only big band in the country to have been awarded three consecutive gold awards at the National Concert Band Festival.
The band's musical director was Matthew Birch, who was brought up in Pembrokeshire and was formerly leader of Greenhill School Orchestra, Pembrokeshire County Orchestra and a member of the National Youth Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble of Wales.
The high standard of the band's performance was very well received by the large audience who had gathered for the evening to support RNLI and the young musicians.
The event raised £1,500.
