Pembroke Castle will be launching an evening talk series this month, with the opening talk on May 18, at 6.30 pm, looking at the construction of its first stone castle, and the life of the Earl of Pembroke who made this all possible: William Marshal, commonly known as the Greatest Knight of the Middle Ages.
Following this, Pembroke Castle will be host to a talk and book-signing from award-winning and best-selling author, Elizabeth Chadwick, on May 25, at 7.30 pm. Elizabeth will be discussing the influences for her historical fiction, specifically William Marshal, protagonist of her New York Times Bestseller, The Greatest Knight.
On June 18, at 7.30 pm, focus will turn to Pembroke’s Tudor history, with a talk being offered on the life and political ambition of Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII and the Tudor Dynasty, who gave birth in Pembroke Castle aged 13.
If you would prefer to hear about the violent and untimely deaths of the castle’s inhabitants, rather than their lives, then you might be more interested in the castle’s evening ghost tours. Due to popularity, additional dates have been announced for June 10, July 8, September 2 and 30 at 7 pm.
All of the events mentioned above are £7 per person and include tea, coffee and welshcakes; and visitors are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the event. Tickets are available in the castle’s gift shop, and online. For more information and to book tickets, please visit www.pembrokecastle.co.uk/events
