Sir,

Further to my letter last week, I am happy to report that the county council has done a thorough job of cleaning the beach in Freshwater East. A team of litter pickers, accompanied by dumper trucks, a JCB and a large lorry, have spent two days clearing away the rubbish.

I had written to the Freshwater East Society and Community Association, to the local Coastcare group and to Lamphey Community Council about the problem.

Their discussions came to the attention of our local county councillor, Clive Collins, who noted that the matter was important to the village.

He liaised with Mr. Glenville Codd, the area manager (south) in the county council's maintenance department, with the power to take action. This chain of support resulted in the work being done.

I understand that our local Coastcare group hope to negotiate a plan of action with Mr. Codd which will result in action being taken sooner next time we experience storm driven littering.

Thank you, therefore, to all those in our local groups and councils who have helped to resolve this little village issue and thank you to the county council for listening and taking action.

V. Tomlinson,

Freshwater East.
