Two holidaymakers were airlifted to safety on Tuesday night after getting into trouble at the base of cliffs between Skrinkle Head and Lydstep.
The pair, a man and a woman, had been bat watching at an inlet near Smugglers Cove when they got cut off by the tide.
The alarm was raised by local man, Jamie Christopher, of Manorbier, who was walking along the headland at around 7.30 pm when he saw flashes of light coming from the base of the cliffs.
Mr. Christopher notified a friend who is a member of the local coastguard unit, and the teams from Manorbier and Tenby were duly dispatched to the scene.
The flashes of light were pin-pointed to a spot near Smugglers Cove and after re-locating nearer that position, the coastguard team summoned the help of a helicopter from RAF Chivenor.
Despite the seven to eight gale force winds and the high surging sea on the cliff face, a winchman was lowered and picked up the two casualties.
They were landed at Skrinkle and checked over, before being taken to Tenby Cottage Hospital where they were treated for mild hypothermia.
The pair, a 26-year-old woman and a man, aged 45, were staying at Trewent Park, Freshwater East, and had made their way to the inlet to watch bats at around lunchtime.
