A very successful summer event was enjoyed by members and friends of the Tenby and Saundersfoot Branch of the Labour Party on Sunday last, on a beautiful sunny afternoon. By hiring the space and equipment of the Skrinkle Community Hall, around 40 friends gathered for a barbecue in that lovely spot overlooking the sea. It was a time of relaxation, a time to eat delicious salads and freshly cooked meats and to have an opportunity to meet and chat with others of similar political vision, during the summer break from monthly meetings. Whilst many stalwart members were absent because they were away on holiday, it was good to welcome Nick Ainger MP and his wife Sally, and Christine Gwyther AM at the event, especially as they are probably ready to 'get away' from their very busy lives at Westminster and Cardiff, at this time of year. The members are grateful for the work put in by the chairman of the branch, Tony Wales, and secretary, Marjorie Bevan, for organising the event and to all those who contributed in other ways, and gave so generously in order to raise funds for the Party. Amongst the raffle prizes was a wonderful box of homegrown vegetables, organic eggs and home-made jam, as well as a House of Commons bottle of Armagnac! The next meeting of the branch will be on Saturday, September 16, when Dr. Brian Gibbons AM, Minister of Health at the Welsh Assembly, will be addressing the meeting. Dr. Gibbons visited Tenby quite recently to open the new Cottage Hospital and spoke very favourably about the efforts of Christine Gwyther and Labour Party members who were amongst the group of local people who campaigned so hard and vociferously for the new hospital. He announced then the signing of the contract for phase two of the hospital - the 10-bedded unit at Park House, and it is hoped that in September members may hear something of the progress being made there. The meeting will be at 11 am at St. Teilo's Church Hall, as usual.
