Two Tenby-based police officers, PC Sharon Gibby and PC Paul Boorman, are pictured after being presented with awards commending them for risking their lives to save a mentally disturbed male from drowning.

The incident happened in January 2007 at about 3.50 am in the sea at North Beach, Tenby.

The officers were sent to the scene and they could hear a man out in the darkness of the sea.

Using torches, they were able to see the man about 100 metres into the water, which was up to his chest.

The man was unresponsive to the police officers, so PC Gibby and PC Boorman entered the sea and made their way to the man.

The officers were able to catch up with the man and bring him back safely to the shore.

Both the officers instinctively risked their own lives to save someone else.

They were commended for risking their lives to save a man from drowning at the Pembrokeshire section's very first divisional commander awards evening.
