LOCAL chef Jamie Bessant has received a prestigious Acorn Award. The awards recognise the outstanding achievements of industry professionals under the age of 30 who go above and beyond the call of duty in their every day roles. Previous winners include Gary Rhodes, Michael Caines and Marco Pierre White. Jamie was nominated by Tracy Owen, senior projects manager for the PRP Group. Jamie's current job role is executive chef and restaurant manager of the Tudor Lodge Restaurant in Jameston, where he oversees the day to day running of the restaurant and also the Training Academy and the Cookery School which is open to all ages and all different levels of skills. Jamie was selected as a winner not only for his support and development of the students within the academy, but also for the extra work he does for Careers Wales and also promoting local and Welsh produce within local schools. Jamie is also a member of the Welsh National Culinary Team and has also won Welsh Junior Baker of the Year.
