On Monda, June 18, Dyffryn Taf School in Whitland was very lucky to be visited by Welsh award- winning author Jenny Sullivan. A warm welcome was extended to Dr. Sullivan by staff and pupils, who were very much looking forward to her visit. Three hour-and-a-half workshops were held in the school library, with each session being attended by around 20 pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9 who are budding young authors. They were taught a wide range of writing skills using her personal experiences as a basis. Jenny then held a question and answer session where pupils were able to ask a range of questions about her books and her inspirations. Brothers Steffan and Jonathan Radbourne took part in a workshop session and said: "It's a great idea to have an author come into school and work with us. We really enjoyed writing the story using the story map and the ideas she gave us." "Jenny gave us loads of different writing tips that were really useful and will help me with my story writing in the future," said Lucy John. Many of the pupils hope to become writers when they are older and Jenny gave them invaluable advice on how to get published. Signed copies of Jenny's books were available for students and proved very popular. Josephine Maidment, from Year 9, and Jonathan Radbourne, from Year 7, were selected by Jenny to receive personal mentoring from her to try and develop their skills with a view to being published in the future. She also recommended that many of the pupils could attend Pembrokeshire Writers' Club, a thriving and successful Pembrokeshire writing group. All the pupils who attended the workshops and the staff at Dyffryn Taf School would like to thank Jenny Sullivan for agreeing to visit the school and for taking the time to work with the pupils.
