Narberth Ath. 51 pts. Dunvant Development 7

The first 15 minutes of this game were fairly even. However, a break-out by centre Gethin Salter, backed up by Thabani Sangwani and Gary Nicholas, put fullback Tom Dennis over in the corner.

The Athletic started to show more aggression and purpose and a charge down the centre of the field by Geoff Collins put flanker Thabani Sangwani away for a try, converted by scrum-half Rhys Davies. Further good work by Tim Plumb put Tom Dennis away for his second try.

Their then followed a long period of sustained pressure on the Athletic line which they defended well and from a turnover ball by flanker Rion Whatmore, the Athletic moved the ball around the park, producing a try for Gethin Salter, to give them a lead of 22 points at the break

The second half brought at times very scrappy rugby, but both sides ran the ball, with the Narberth team proving to be the better side.

Hooker Gareth Flynn scored a try following a break by scrum-half Rhys Davies, who also converted it. Wing forward Rion Whatmore, who had a exceptional afternoon, scored a try to complete a 15-man move.

The Athletic increased the lead after a long range run by Arwyn Williams put Gethin Salter away for a try. There was no stopping the Narberth team now who had the bit between their teeth and winger Tim Plumb went over for a try converted by Rhys Davies.

A consolation try and conversion by the Dunvant stand-off in the closing minutes looked like bringing the end of the game, but a try by centre Gary Nicholas produced the final score.

The Narberth team was a mixture of youth and experience and the return of senior players Bill Ridge, Iestyn Evans and Geoff Collins brought back positive memories and a good result.

Back-row forward Rion Whatmore was nominated man of the match by the Narberth team management.
