Sir,

I've had two sons at Greenhill and so have first-hand knowledge of the very real benefits that the music at Greenhill brings to so many of the children.

I and many others have always appreciated the policy of the Greenhill Orchestra to include the widest possible range of children and their abilities. In other words, it is not the exclusive activity of a chosen few.

It is widely accepted, even by the government, that music has an important role in the educational development of our children. It would therefore be a shameful tragedy if this orchestra, of which we have all become so proud, should be closed. Indeed were the orchestra to be closed, it would act as a major disincentive to parents considering which school to send their children to; in turn this might mark the beginning of a serious decline for Greenhill.

The orchestra has been a major part of Greenhill's identity and I am astonished that this is even been considered - I urge all those in power to ensure that the school abandons the proposed closure.
