Last Sunday evening, Tenby and District Arts Club celebrated the first of three special events to mark the 60th year of their inauguration with a concert at St. Mary's Church, Tenby. The event was organised by Dr. John Harrison, who recruited three well- known local musical organisations to take part. The music was chosen from Britain, France, Russia, America and Africa, with some light-hearted items and others in a more serious vein. The Whitland and District Male Voice Choir sang several familiar prices from the male voice repertoire, in the Welsh tradition. The Griffon Choir included choral classics as well as some lighter pieces. Both choirs were warmly applauded by the appreciative audience. The Mezin String Quartet delighted everyone with Pachabel's 'Canon', and later with Borodin's Nocturne from the String Quartet No.2. On the organ, John Harrison celebrated two composer anniversaries with Elgar's 'Pomp and Circumstance March No.4' and Baxtehude's 'Fugue in G Minor'. The whole programme was very well chosen and beautifully sung and played by the musicians, with enjoyment and understanding. The audience was given a real musical treat. It was a privilege to listen to such a performance. The Arts Club is most grateful to John Harrison for all his hard work in organising such an excellent evening. They would also like to acknowledge Chevron's generous support and the family of Heather Edwards in connection with this visit.
