Artist Alec Lewis recently donated a picture to Tenby Museum and Art Gallery’s collection.

Alec, who had a successful one-man exhibition at the museum in 2018, was born in Carmarthen.

He is a graduate of Maidstone College of Art and later a Creative Director in the advertising business before moving to Tenby 10 years ago. Alec is also an active committee member for the Friends of Tenby Museum organisation.

The donated work is entitled ‘Tenby Painter (Augustus John)’ and so is an ideal donation to the gallery that has several original Augustus John works on show.

The painting also reflects Alec’s interest in the written word.

Alec said: “In my work I use all elements that are available to me and mix watercolour with acrylic and collage on canvas.

“It is possible to make art out of anything: bits of wrapping paper, pieces of cardboard, used tickets, whatever you like.”

The work will be displayed in the museum’s Wilfred Harrison Gallery in close proximity to the Gwen and Augustus John paintings.
