Once again it was smiles all round for the two local Tenderfoot Teams who competed in this year's Welsh Disabled Sports Team Championship, sponsored by Rotary International and held at the Newport Leisure Centre, where the teams attained creditable second and fourth places.
Team captain for the Tenderfoot Team, Kimberley Woolley, of Kilgetty, set the standard for the day, leading her boccia team of brother Simon Woolley and Angie Richards, of Broad Haven, to the final, narrowly missing out on first place.
Other notable achievements came from Matthew Vidler, of Pembroke, and James Dash, of Spittal, who came second and third, respectively, in the table tennis, while a good performance came from Martin Mathews, of Broadmoor, who came third in the darts competition.
Good performances came from John Richards (Broad Haven), Martin Goodall and Matthew Boyd (Haverfordwest), Meryl Cox (New Hedges) in the swimming, Dennis Woolley (Kilgetty) and Francis Corbett (Narberth) in the shot putt and newcomers Pricilla Williams (Tenby) and Marion Hamer (Narberth) in the basketball competition.
Both teams were pleased with the award for personality of the games which was awarded to Jonathan Hubbard, of Kilgetty.
The Tenderfoot Team was formed in conjunction with the Rotary Clubs of Saundersfoot and Tenby who undertook the training for this year's competition, with large numbers travelling to Newport to support their sponsored teams.
Team managers, Rotarians Charles Hopkinson and Newman Vincent, of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot, were extremely pleased with dedication shown by all team members and congratulated them on their deserved second and fourth placings, particularly as the event attracted a large number of team entries from all over Wales.
Tenderfoot will recommence training at the Tenby Leisure Centre into the New Year where it is hoped that a few new members may be encouraged to participate. Further information os available from Rotarian Charles Hopkinson on (01834) 812793.
