Young Pembrokeshire cricketers and local cricket coaches will be making a bee-line for Haverfordwest Cricket Club on Friday, March 6, to attend the annual Dragon Cricket Coaching Awards Presentation Evening.

The annual event is organised by the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Coaches to mark the progress the young players have made in their cricket development by participating in the various Dragon Award Courses.

The county's award organiser, Stuart Beresford, said "Over 150 youngsters have attended the latest Dragon Award Cricket Coaching courses held between September and February at the various sports centres throughout the county, and should have already received letters giving them their results. Certificates will be presented to the successful players on that night.

"Both the Julia White Bowling Award and the Leslie Ellis Batting Award will also be presented during the evening.  These go to the most promising youth cricketers of 2008.

"In addition county youth caps for 2008 will be awarded to those who have represented the county at various age levels in their junior career with considerable merit.

"Doors are open at 7 pm and, apart from the presentations, there will be refreshments, a raffle and a display of cricket clothing and kit by The Cricket Shop of Narberth. Formalities should take no more than an hour.

"All are welcome, and it is an opportunity to meet and talk to members of the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Coaches, who are already assembling our regional squads for the 2009 season at under 10 to under 17 age groups.

"We are always looking for new partners to help us financially with our efforts to discover and encourage new cricketing talent in the county. If anyone feels they could join with us in any way, please come along to the presentation evening to see what we do and how we may be able to benefit each other."
