The RNLI annual Castlemartin Range walk/run and novelty dog show, held recently, has raised the magnificent sum of £2,100 (writes D.B.).

Mr. John Burns, BVMS, MRCVS, of Burns Pet Nutrition Ltd., kindly agreed to be our guest starting the event this year. John has been sponsoring the novelty dog show with his pet nutrition products, as prizes, since the show’s introduction four years ago.

Burns Pet Nutrition colleagues also attended, walking the eight-mile course, as did John, once he had wished 81 supporters, dogs too, on their way at the start.

Jack Richards, of Angle, provided his 1953 Ferguson Tractor for the starting line, as he does each year also. A huge thank you to you all.

The weather was glorious and the event enjoyed by all, at this unique location on Castlemartin Range by kind permission of the British Army. A peaceful place in August. Nevertheless, we really love to see Keith and Sandra, our DJs, arriving with their music to set the mood for a happy day.

A total of £2,100 was raised on the day. The final figure will be announced shortly. All possible thanks to you, our supporters and sponsors.

Pembroke Ladies Lifeboat Guild wish to thank vet, Billa Schleicher MRCVS from All Pets Vet Care, of Milford Haven, for judging the dog show again. Billa has been with us from the beginning.

This year, 14 owners competed over seven classes, directed by Ira and David Ramsden. Five owners and their dogs reached the championship class. They were in order, Mark with Murphy, Chris with Shane, Jess with Chief, Rachel with Ruby and Sarah with Simba.

Thanks also for support, prior to the event, from Valero, W. P. Lewis & Son Ltd, Phil and Sue Davies, of Sealand, Carew, Christian, of Powell’s Holidays, Llanion Signs and the Observer group of newspapers Tenby, for their assistance with advertising.

Mr. John Allen-Mirehouse, hon sec. and lifeboat operations manager of Angle Lifeboat Station, made two very appropriate RNLI certificate of thanks presentations this year.

Firstly, to Jo Richards (mother of Jack) for the Angle Tractor Team. This group of supporters volunteer to erect and dismantle our marquee with Guild family members. Seeing is believing, ‘they take some keeping up with,’ but make allowances for me!

The second presentation went to Pembroke Dock Cub Masters, Dilys and Bill Cardy. They have attended all walks in its 24-year history, along with the group of Cubs in their charge in each particular year. This year, Dilys and Bill were also mentioned in the RNLI ’s lifeboat magazine.

Two important local honours which will undoubtedly encourage future generations support of the RNLI.

Finally, immense gratitude to friends and family members of Pembroke Guild who help with vital roles to make the day a success. Car parking, marshalling water stops on the range and the priceless sustenance of the BBQ. Tom, David, Beryn, Rachael, Phil and Kath, thank you.

Pembroke Ladies members, well, a priceless group of fundraisers for a priceless charity. That is the free 24/7 inshore, coastal, flood and seasonal lifeguard service in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, which is the RNLI.

Please join us next year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this event. We promise to make it a very special day.
