Saundersfoot Barnardo's Group once again held their Annual Five Mile Walk to raise money for children in need.

This month marks the hundredth anniversary of the death of Dr. Thomas Barnardo. To commemorate this centenary, a memorial service was held at Llandaff Cathedral to celebrate his life. Katherine Jenkins sang at this memorable service, when Barnado's voluntary helpers gathered from all over South and West Wales.

The walk raised in excess of £900 and a committee employee of Barclays, Carmen Hopkins, who helped raise this money, will have the funds matched by Barclays under the employee £ for £ scheme. The funds will enable the charity to continue helping projects in West Wales where children are in need.

Carmen Hopkins said: "At Barclays we are committed to communities and we are delighted to be able to work closely with our local community to achieve something which we hope will make a real and lasting difference."

The chair of Saundersfoot Group, Marjorie Piper, and committee would like to thank all who supported this event by walking and contributing to the grand total raised. Every pound raised in Wales is spent in Wales by Barnado's Cymru, with 80p in every pound spent on projects.

The chair thanked the committee - secretary Joan Irving, treasurer Sue Lewis, Margaret James, Nesta Williams, Gill Priestland, Helen Henderson, Nesta Duckworth, Hetty Walters, Clare Lewis, Marilyn Philips and Pam Maggs, all of whom are now working towards their next event, the Candlelight Carol Service at Carew Castle on the evening of December 14.

Grateful thanks are also extended to Barclays.
