Angela Burns has been re-elected as Welsh Conservative Assembly Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire.

Angela confounded sceptics by winning the seat with a 2.5 per cent swing from Labour to the Welsh Conservatives and increased her majority from 98 to 1,504.

Second was Christine Gwyther representing Welsh Labour, who polled 8,591 votes, while third was Plaid Cymru - The Party of Wales' candidate, Nerys Evans, with 218 less at 8,373 votes. Selwyn Runnett, Welsh Liberal Democrats, was fourth with 1,097, votes.

Angela Burns AM said: "I am honoured that the people of Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire have given me the opportunity to represent them for another Assembly term.

"My campaign concentrated on Welsh issues and the poor record of Labour-Plaid. While other candidates focused on issues centred around Westminster, my priorities were very clear, the Welsh health service, Welsh education, Welsh farming, and the Welsh economy.

"These are the issues that really mattered to the people I spoke to, and these are the issues that I will continue to work tirelessly to improve.

"Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire deserves the strongest voice possible in the National Assembly, and I will continue to provide it."

The turnout was 48.5 per cent.
