Local Assembly Member Angela Burns updated Clr. Jane Tremlett and members of Llanddowror and Eglwyscummin community councils on her work to persuade the Welsh Labour Government to mitigate the problems arising from the new Llanddowror bypass.

Concerns have been raised by many constituents over the past months because the new turning off the bypass to Red Roses in a sharp turn with no filter lane. The Government erected a monitoring camera for a short time however no further action has been taken.

Mrs. Burns said: “Most of us welcome the bypass, but it does have this one flaw that many people are concerned could become fatal.

“The speed of the traffic coming over the top of the bypass towards Pembrokeshire is very high and there is no filter for traffic wanting to turn left into Red Roses.

“I travel that road a number of times every week and have seen some near misses. I’m a local and approach with caution, but I worry about those who aren’t or who are disorientated by poor visibility or simply travelling too fast.”

She continued: “I have asked the Minister for action many times, but she is obdurate. The report from the monitoring camera has disappeared into the ether and I am concerned no changes will be made to that turning until there’s an accident.

“A number of people have reported narrow escapes and I stood and monitored the traffic speed and behaviour myself. It’s fast, it’s dangerous and the Welsh Labour Government must act before someone get’s hurt.”
