Paying their first visit to Britain, the Choral Society of Montgomery County from Pennsylvania, USA, is spending all its stay in Wales.

After two days in Cardiff, with a concert at St. Germans Church in Roath, they travel to Pembrokeshire - visiting on the way the National Botanic Gardens of Wales in Carmarthenshire and the Dylan Thomas' Boathouse - before enjoying three hectic days in Pembrokeshire.

They will spend time looking round the Walled Town of Tenby and crossing over to Caldey Island for a visit to the Monastery and its area. After lunch at the Pam Pam Restaurant, they will be rehearsing for their evening concert at St. Issell's Church in Saundersfoot.

This famous choir has an impressive record of artistic achievement, including being recently honoured with one of the most prestigious artistic awards in the Greater Philadelphia region - The Philadelphia Music Project Award.

Their other accomplishments include their CD 'Here's to Song' in June 1998; a Gold Award at the International Music Festival in Sydney, Australia, in July 1993; and touring the former Soviet Union in 1991, Australia in 1993, and the Czech Republic and Hungary in 1995.

The most important concert of the tour is at St. Issell's Church in Saundersfoot at 7.45 pm on Tuesday, July 3, and the proceeds from tickets are being given to the NSPCC.

The artistic director of the choir is Judith Willoughby and her energy, style and passion for all types of choral music have made her a favourite with festival choirs and their directors.

The ensemble performances have been broadcast live on many special occasions, including those with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and the Australian Broadcast Corporation at the Sydney Opera House.

On July 4, they will be visiting Pembroke Castle and St. David's, giving a short lunchtime concert in St. David's Cathedral. After this they will travel through Blue Stone country back to Saundersfoot to enjoy a special July 4 Independence Day barbecue at St. Brides Hotel. They will also be treated to a performance of 'Under Milk Wood' as part of their Independence Day celebrations.

After their visit to Pembrokeshire, the choir will travel north to compete at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, before returning home on Sunday, July 8.
