Respect has been paid in the Pembroke Dock community to the Ambulance Service, after paramedics save the life of a local lady last year.
On May 22, last year, during the pandemic, the ambulance crew were called to The First and Last pub in Pembroke Dock, after regular customer Amanda Worrall collapsed with a suspected heart attack (later confirmed to be a cardiac arrest).
At the establishment run by Michelle and Richard Maynard, with all of Amanda’s family and friends around, Michelle acted appropriately until the paramedics arrived, luckily in a very short space of time, and when they did, they worked on Amanda after losing her for a period of time.
With four shocks of their machine and two rounds of medicated drugs, Amanda was thankfully stabilised and blue lighted to Withybush Hopsital in Haverfordwest, before then being taken to Morriston Hospital
Amanda’s family have said that they can’t thank all those involved enough and especially the paramedics that saved her life that night.
A year later, family and friends gathered at the Prince Of Wales in Pembroke Dock, now family run by Amanda’s sister Nicola and Darren Jones, to celebrate another year of her being around with a surprise party!
Singer Dan Ni set up to entertain the crowd for the afternoon, but was slightly side-tracked, when Amanda received a surprise special visit, as the paramedics who saved her life that night, called in!
Sadly, one gentleman had moved away from the area, but a gentle reminder was talked about how Amanda was still here to today, even bringing in the machine that saved her a year ago.
There wasn’t one dry eye in the pub, with a lot of emotions around the room for Amanda, but more so respect for the crew and the service who work around the clock and under so much stress to ensure the safety of the public.
A massive cheer and round of applause was handed to the local ambulance crew for everything they have done for everyone over the time, not just Amanda.
Going forward, Nicola, Darren and the team at Prince of Wales will be holding some charity events to raise money in aid of the service, and are also hoping to raise money for their own defibrillator at the premises.
