The arrival of Alstom in Pembrokeshire to construct the new RWE npower power station was huge news (writes Daphne Bush, Pembroke Ladies Lifeboat Guild.).
Wales Air Ambulance and RNLI fundraisers could never have imagined the support that they would receive from Alstom in the company's three years in the county.
Alstom agreed to sponsor the ambitious fundraising of the That'll Be The Day Rock 'n' Roll Variety Show Annual Charity Weekend at Folly Farm in aid of two charities often working together to save lives in coastal rescues, also working together on dry land to raise funds, a great combination!
The outstanding sum of £50,000 has been shared in fundraising by the charities during the three-year sponsorship by Alstom.
Thanks to site managers Rob Jordan and Mark Hill during this time and for introducing us to RWE npower in the process. Positive links are priceless to the fund-raisers. Thank you on behalf of the RNLI and Wales Air Ambulance.
A reception was held recently at the Old Kings Arms Hotel, Pembroke - courtesy of proprietor Shirley Wheeler, Pembroke Ladies Lifeboat Guild vice-president - to thank Alstom;
Mark Hill, of Alstom, was presented with a framed photograph of Angle lifeboat, the RNLB Mark Mason. Chris Ebsworth, managing director of Folly Farm, who kindly provides his Follies Theatre as the venue for the annual charity event, was unable to attend.
The nationally-famous That'll Be The Day Rock 'n' Roll Variety Show artists have been entertaining us at the Follies Theatre for several years. In fact, Phil Thompson MBE, event organiser, tells me it will soon be time to start on the July 2013 event. We are ready, needless to say! See you all next year and thank you for your support in 2012.
