The weather took a break from the torrential rain in the morning for the opening of the annual Pembroke St. Michaelmas Fair on Thursday with Samba Doc leading the Parade with the Mayor of Pembroke Councillor Linda Brown and her Consort Chis Doyle, along with Pembroke’s Town Crier Councillor Rose Blackburn, Mace Bearers, Chairman of PCC and Mayors from surrounding towns taking part.

The popular fair, which can be traced back to a royal charter granted in medieval times, attracted young and old to Main Street to enjoy the numerous side stalls and attractions.

At the reception hosted by the Showmen’s Guild held at Pembroke Town Hall, Mr. Dean Deakin (Chairman) was presented with a Dragon from the Mayor of Pembroke, and who in return was given a book by the Guild of the history of the Deakin family, ‘A. Deakin and Sons - Modern Amusements’.

During the evening, Mr. Deakin was also presented with a plaque from Mrs. Daphne Bush, Chairman of the RNLI Pembroke Branch, who catered for the reception who had raised over the last ten years over £4000.00 for the RNLI.
