'ALL about leaves' is a RHS regional event being held at Picton Castle and Woodland Gardens on Tuesday, September 14, at 2 pm. Head gardener Roddy Milne will lead a tour of the gardens to emphasise the importance of leaves in creating style, shape and atmosphere, with advice on planting schemes, colours and textures. This RHS event will cover the advantages of good foliage-bearing plants, both on a large scale - looking at 100-foot trees - and on a smaller scale with the garden's sub-tropical bedding. Roddy Milne will raise awareness of the visual role of leaves and will show how different effects can be achieved with the right planting schemes and how to use contrasting colours and textures for added interest. This early autumn tour of the grounds will take in the leafy woodland walk and the walled garden to see the striking effects created by the abundance and variety of leaves. Ticket prices are £7.95 for RHS members and £9.95 for non-members. Tickets must be booked in advance on 020 78213408. The ticket line is open 9 am - 5 pm Monday to Friday, but it closes two working days before the event.
