1574 (Pembroke Borough) Squadron ATC held its annual presentation evening at the Naval Association Club, Pembroke Dock, on Saturday. The squadron paraded before a large gathering of invited guests and parents to witness the achievements of the Air Cadets during 2007/08. During the past 12 months, the cadets of 1574 Squadron have, among other things, travelled as far afield as Cyprus, France, the Netherlands and Germany, have won 12 Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, have earned the equivalent of 24 GCSE's, have flown more than 50 hours in RAF aircraft and have won praise and comment wherever they have paraded or been active in the public eye. Guest of honour for the evening was the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, The Honourable Robin Lewis OBE. The Lord Lieutenant was joined by the Officer Commanding No.3 Welsh Wing, Wing Commander Robert Wilson, as well as representatives from the communities of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock. The cadets' achievements listed were many and varied, including sporting medals, promotions, marksmanship awards, radio proficiency certificates, first aid and leadership qualifications. Trophy winners were as follows: FS Vaughan Holding received the Flt Lt Ray Wells Memorial Trophy for Marksmanship; Cpl Byron Jenkins received the Rogers Rugby Shield; Cpl Katie Reeves received both the Neville Cup for Academic Achievement and the Doug Wetherall Trophy for Services to the Community; Cpl Simon Donohoe won both the Flt Lt Bill Millar Memorial Trophy for Best Attendance and the Sqn Ldr Gwilym Roberts Proficiency Trophy; Cpl Daryl Page received the Sporting Achievement Trophy. The Andrew Skone Memorial Trophy for Best Recruit was awarded to Cdt Sionedd Lindley; The Best NCO Trophy went to FS Vaughan Holding; The Sandra Myatt Trophy for the Best Cadet was won by Sgt Geraint Jones. Cadet Warrant Officer Sian Nevatte won a large number of awards in her last year as a cadet. Following in the footsteps of her predecessor, Cadet Warrant Officer Rachel Graham, she was awarded the trophy for the Best Female Cadet in No.3 Welsh Wing by Wing Commander Wilson. She was also awarded the badge for the Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Dyfed by the Lord Lieutenant, being the fourth cadet from 1574 Squadron to win the honour since 2000. Finally, she was awarded the very well-deserved Squadron Commander's Cup. However, Wing Commander Wilson had two surprises in store at the end of the night. He had two awards to make on behalf of the Commandant Air Cadets. The Commandant's Certificate of Good Service to Instructor Cadet Warrant Officer Sian Nevatte and the Commandant's Commendation for Meritorious Service to Flight Lieutenant Mark Davies, Commanding Officer of 1574 Squadron.
